In Fortnite: Battle Royale, according to a leak, a sword is supposed to come back into the game. However, it is not expected to be a remake of the controversial Infinity Blade.
What is the deal with the sword? In the data from Patch 7.20 of Fortnite, there are hints of a sword. However, it won’t be a remake of the Supersword Infinity Blade. Rather, it is said to be a “Medieval Sword”.
Are melee weapons coming into the game?
What could the sword entail? Since the sword sounds more like an ordinary weapon, fans suspect that it will be exactly that: a melee weapon that you find according to the regular loot rules in the game.
So far, battles in Fortnite have mainly revolved around firearms. The pickaxe as a melee attack was only used when nothing useful was found at the start of the game.
Nonetheless, it would be great for the game to have special melee weapons. Epic just needs to find a value for these weapons without making them too good. Super weapons like the Infinity Blade were clearly rejected by the community.
However, a sword that offers limited advantages would certainly enrich the meta. Additionally, melee weapons would logically expand the arsenal. After all, Epic has covered all sensible versions of firearms with various shotguns, assault rifles, and even sniper revolvers. However, there is still much room for innovation with melee weapons.
What could be done with melee weapons: On the Forbes site, the author speculates about various types of weapons. For example, a samurai sword could allow for many quick attacks and thrusts as a special skill. A heavy battle axe, on the other hand, would be good for smashing buildings.
