Today, there is a surprising small update for Fortnite, weighing about 368 MB. What’s in patch 5.30.1? We take a look at the patch notes in English.
Some players have felt since yesterday that Fortnite feels somehow wrong on PS4 and Xbox One. A hotfix is supposed to fix this today.
Why Fortnite felt somehow wrong
What was the problem? Patch 5.30 introduced a number of changes yesterday. A small sentence in the patch notes had big consequences:
- The controller input and its acceleration were adjusted to allow for minor changes in aiming.
What sounds so innocuous in the sentence has apparently changed the feeling of control for players using a controller.
Aiming felt “wrong”: Because after the update the “controller sensitivity” did not work as it did before. Therefore, many players complained: Fortnite feels somehow wrong. This is a sensitive topic that many can hardly describe, but aiming just didn’t feel right anymore.
Epic then released a hotfix yesterday to revert the change. But it didn’t fully work.
Goal: Feel “just right”.
What Epic says: The developers explained yesterday that they might have gone too far with the changes. This is evident from player feedback. Therefore, they wanted to revert it as soon as possible.
However, the hotfix yesterday could not completely undo the changes to aiming. That was only possible with a proper client update today.
Epic points out, however, that they have adjusted the dead zone on Xbox One controllers. This is a “healthy change” that will be left in the game. Here, they fixed a bug that now requires Xbox One players to adjust their sensitivity a bit to make aiming feel “just right” again.
What’s in the new update today? Patch 5.30.1 (via reddit) is about 368 MB. It addresses three issues:
- It fixes problems with controller acceleration
- It fixes issues with weapon swapping while sprinting
- And it eliminates another crash
The patch comes without server downtime. However, players will need to download it.
