In Fortnite: Battle Royale there are many landing spots that you can choose for the start of a match. One landing spot seems to be quite popular among some pros: the Grotto, newly added to the map with Season 2. But what makes “The Grotto” so special?
What is a landing spot? In Fortnite, you jump out of a bus at the start of a round and then fly to any location on the map to land. These locations are referred to as landing spots.
At a “good landing spot”, you can find plenty of weapons and ammunition needed for battle, but it is crucial which location you choose because not everywhere has the same amount of loot.
On the map of Season 2 Chapter 2, 5 new locations have been added, including “The Grotto.” This landing spot is especially popular among some pros.
Is “The Grotto” the best landing spot in Season 2?
What makes the landing spot so special? The Grotto was introduced in line with the Season 2 theme, which revolves around agents. On the new map, hidden in a grotto, you can find a base of Team Shadow.
The Grotto is guarded by the mini-boss Brutus and his henchmen. While the NPCs can be a bit annoying as they shoot as soon as they see you, they often carry powerful weapons that are not found elsewhere on the map.
But it’s not just the henchmen who drop these weapons when eliminated. You can disguise yourself as a henchman at phone booths to open encrypted chests which require scanning for appearance. There you will find weapons of blue or purple rarity and even some shield potions to upgrade your shields.
However, there are 3 things that distinguish “The Grotto” and make it special:
- The vault where you can find epic and legendary weapons, as well as healing items, ammunition, and explosive items
- The mythical mini-gun from Brutus, which is quite powerful
- The rotation options
Just for the mini-gun, it’s worth landing at “The Grotto”, but what sets it apart from other agent bases is the rotation capability.
There are indeed 2 ways to quickly reach a location without having to run much across the map. At The Grotto, there are fans that can propel you into the air and allow you to fly easily to another place.
Furthermore, there is a zipline nearby that takes you to Steamy Stacks. From Steamy Stacks, you can also fly further if you use the reactors.
Some Fortnite pros claim Grotto
It is these special features and advantages of “The Grotto” that lead some Fortnite pros to believe that it is the best landing spot in Fortnite tournaments.
For instance, Fortnite star Turner “Tfue” Tenney claimed this landing spot for the FNCS. When another duo landed there in the tournament, Tfue was accused of exploiting his power over the kids’ army to terrorize the “annoying” opponents so they would no longer land there.
But it doesn’t stop there, because Fortnite pros are already preparing for FNCS Trios that could take place. Tfue’s team encountered another trio and they wanted to prove who is the “King” of Grotto.
The Tfue team was able to clearly prove themselves because they had more experience at this landing spot.
Fortnite pros like Tfue seem to view the landing spot “Grotto” as the best landing spot as it continually leads to discussions and disputes because everyone wants to claim it.
But the new locations are not just positive; they can quickly turn into a trap for players. Because it may happen that the vault found there is closed, and you hold the key card for opening it, but still find an opponent hiding there. Glitchers have found a way to cheat into vaults without having a key card.
