The holidays are getting closer, and so is the Winterfest in Fortnite: Battle Royale. What could Winterfest 2020 bring to the game? Here you will see some hints and comparisons to the past Christmas event.
It should soon be festive in Fortnite, and in the past years, this has always been celebrated with a special event. What could Epic have planned for the holidays in 2020?
Winterfest 2019 Recap
What kind of event was that? For 2 weeks, players could experience a cool event in Fortnite that revolved around Christmas and gifts. The menu featured an entire section dedicated to the Winterfest lodge, where players could visit and open a gift daily.
In the 14 gifts were cool cosmetics and even 2 skins, all offered for free to all players. If someone was traveling during the holidays, they had 1 week to open all gifts afterward, so they wouldn’t miss out on the free items. There were:
- Skins
- Picks
- Gliders
- Loading screens
- Weapon wraps
- Back bling
- Emote
- Trap effect
There were also Christmas challenges: Like every year, there were challenges that put us in the festive mood. In 2019, Epic had a fun idea for how to unlock the new tasks.
There was a Christmas stocking located in the lodge from which players could draw a few challenges daily. Completing the tasks rewarded players with an additional 16 festive items.
How did the map change for Christmas? In keeping with the mood, the map was also decorated accordingly. Christmas trees were set up everywhere, and the houses were adorned with decorations. The snow completed the picture and allowed players to immerse themselves in the joyful time.
How will the Winterfest take place this year?
What hints are there for Fortnite Christmas 2020? Epic has not yet announced when or if there will be a Winterfest event at all. However, it seems likely, as there has been a special event in the game for the holidays every year so far.
The Winterfest 2019 started on December 18th and lasted until January 7th with the extension. So it could be very possible that it will take place around this time again.
The data miner HYPEX found a leak in the Fortnite data some time ago about what we can expect for Christmas. According to the leaker, we might get a special snowman NPC that gives us missions. Now that there are various characters on the map, this assumption doesn’t seem so unlikely anymore.
These Christmas skins have already been leaked: For the festival, the right outfit is, of course, essential. Fortnite continues to supply us with skins that match the theme. Some of the known skins from previous Christmases have already appeared in the item shop.
Data miners, however, found more Christmas skins in the data that have never been seen in Fortnite before. Including a gingerbread version of Renegade Raider and Fishstick as a Christmas tree, which have already appeared in the item shop. They shared the finds on Twitter:
With this outfit “Snowmando,” it could also be the snowman NPC that was leaked. But keep in mind that this has not been officially confirmed yet.
Additionally, a powerful vehicle was leaked that could return to Fortnite for Christmas.
