Fortnite is now giving away V-Bucks after being sued in 2019 for an unfair loot box system in “Save the World”. We show you what Epic has to say and who should receive the free V-Bucks.
This is the situation right now: Fortnite announced in a blog post that some players will now receive 1000 V-Bucks for free. These are to be given to players who bought a “random” loot llama in Save the World before they turned into X-Ray Llamas in 2019 – the new llamas show what content you can expect before you buy.
Although the X-Ray Llamas were introduced back in 2019 and replaced the random loot boxes, Fortnite is now compensating all original buyers with free V-Bucks.
We believe that players should know what they are getting before they make in-game purchases. That’s why we only offer X-Ray Llamas that show you the content before you buy them in Save the World.

Fortnite sued over loot boxes
Why is there compensation now? Fortnite distributing free V-Bucks to the original buyers is part of an agreement made with the court after Epic was sued for the previous loot system in 2019.
The court did not decide who was right or wrong. However, to save time, money, and the uncertainty of lawsuits, the parties have now agreed to reach a settlement. The court approved the settlement to reach an agreement.
Epic itself says that the settlement was originally only supposed to apply to players from the USA, but they decided to refund V-Bucks to all buyers of loot llamas worldwide.
So if you bought a loot llama back then, you should receive your free 1,000 V-Bucks in the next few days, if you haven’t already. Some players report receiving V-Bucks even though they have never purchased a loot llama. We will probably see how this unfolds in the coming days. Until then, you can buy an emote or perhaps even skins in Fortnite with the V-Bucks.
