Fortnite seems to be cracking down on providers of V-Bucks and exclusive content. Players are now reporting the removal of an exclusive skin. Are third-party providers to blame?
What is Epic trying to fight against? There are many third-party providers selling exclusive skins. However, these are usually tied to a promotion and only available when purchasing a specific mobile device, such as from Samsung.
For purchasing the advertised product, one then receives a code to unlock the skin in Fortnite. The last exclusive outfit was the Glow skin, which was linked to a Samsung promotion.
Third-party providers use various illegal methods to obtain such codes and sell them “cheaply”. Epic apparently wants to curb these actions.
Players report the removal of an exclusive skin
This is what players are reporting now: On reddit and Twitter, confused players are showing pictures that the Ikonik skin and its emote have been removed from their accounts.
The Ikonik skin was an exclusive outfit that could be obtained by purchasing a Samsung S10+.
As a reason, Epic states via an in-game message that something is wrong with the payment.
Players are reporting the methods by which they obtained the skin. It seems that the Ikonik skin has been permanently removed for the affected players.
Reasons for removal still unclear
The reason for the removal of the skin is actually clear: All those who lose the skin obtained it through third-party providers. But it doesn’t seem to be that simple in this case.
Many players are coming forward who supposedly received the Ikonik skin the right way:
- They purchased the Samsung device and thus received the code
- A friend or relative had the device and gave them the code
However, even some of these seemingly honest players had the exclusive outfit and emote removed from their lockers.
There also seem to be players who bought the exclusive skin from one of the disreputable third-party providers and did not have the skin removed.
This removal of the exclusive skin seems to confuse many. Hopefully, there will be clarification soon, as it seems that no locker is safe from Epic at the moment.
