On May 8, 2018, a new game mode as a mashup between Marvel and Fortnite is set to launch, according to a tweet from Epic. In the tweet, the Level-100 skin Omega and the arch-villain Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War are featured.
How does the new game mode work? According to Entertainment Weekly, this is the first new limited game mode of Season 4. The mode will be called Infinity Gauntlet and will play out like a regular Fortnite round.
The difference is that the Infinity Gauntlet is lying somewhere around. This is Thanos’ glove that he uses to control the 6 Infinity Stones. Whoever finds the glove will immediately become Thanos.
The mode starts tomorrow, Tuesday, likely along with the new challenges around 10:00 or 11:00 AM.
What is a mashup? A “mashup” refers to the combination of two existing contents into a new entity. In this case, the “Infinity Gauntlet” mode is a mix of Fortnite and Marvel.
Avengers directors are huge Fortnite fans
What do Marvel and Fortnite have in common? Apparently, the directors of the Avengers film, Joe and Anthony Russo, are big Fortnite fans. That’s why they have sought contact with Epic’s creative head Donald Mustard in recent months.
He explained that the two had called him out of the blue and proposed this crazy idea. Mustard says: “We knew that whatever we do, it has to feel right for both Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War.”
