Today, the update 8.20 is coming to Fortnite . It was already known that a lot would change – but it has become even more. Epic is fundamentally changing the rules of Fortnite and is reverting the aggressive new rules. We take a look at the patch notes for 8.20 in English.
The update brings three major changes for Fortnite Battle Royale alone: poison traps, new instant items, and the old rules are back.
Additionally, with Ranked Play, a new way to play Fortnite is introduced: players are divided into divisions and leagues based on their strength. The “aggressive rules” still apply here.
Highlights of the Patch Notes for Battle Royale
“Old rules are back”: Fortnite is reverting the “new aggro rules” that were introduced in patch 7.40 about 6 weeks ago.
In all standard modes of Fortnite, it is now the same as before the patch that was supposed to reward aggressive gameplay:
- There are no longer health points, shield points, and 50/50/50 materials after kills.
- The harvesting of materials is now 40% less lucrative again, and the maximum limit is back to 999.
With the old rules, stronger players could continuously heal through kills, and overall, less farming of materials with the pickaxe was necessary.
The “newer aggro rules” are supposed to continue to apply in competitive game mode and are therefore active in the new Arena mode: that is the new Ranked Play of Fortnite.
New mode: In the fresh limited mode “Hot Sole”, lava rises. Players must hurry to loot as quickly as possible and then try to get up.
The lava starts rising after a few minutes until it covers the entire map. Anyone who touches the lava loses health points and jumps up – however, players can build on the lava.
Bouncer is too strong in Fortnite
Bouncer changes: With the new patch, the Bouncer no longer deals damage when colliding with players.
With patch 8.30 for Fortnite (approximately in two weeks), it should be possible to shoot through the glass of the Bouncer. Epic believes that the hamster ball is too strong – especially in the endgame.
Infantry Rifle is changing: It now fires not like a sniper rifle, but like an assault rifle.
The base damage also decreases from 45/42 to 42/40.
New poison trap: The new poison trap comes in the rarity “green” and will be found on the ground.
The trap can be triggered from a distance of up to 3 tiles.
Then it fires poison arrows over 3 tiles sideways or 4 tiles up or down.
The poison directly affects health points and deals 10 damage per tick. Victims take a total of 80 damage over 7 seconds.
New fruits for tropics and desert
New instant items:
- Bananas give 5 health points – they are found in the tropical area.
- Coconuts fall from palms when they take damage. They give 5 health points or shield, depending on what is needed – they are found in tropical areas or in desert areas.
- Peppers grant 5 health points and 20% increased movement speed for 10 seconds – the peppers can be found in the desert.
Fortnite gets Ranked Play
New Arena mode: The new ranked mode in Fortnite is available for solo and duo.
Players can collect “Hype” to climb to higher leagues or participate in major tournaments like the Fortnite World Cup for 30 million US dollars .
Players are assigned to individual divisions and can rise here from the “Open League” to the “Contender League” to the “Champions League”.
The idea here is that “similarly skilled” players come together in matches and professionals are not always pitted against beginners.
As early as August 2018, Epic announced that such a ranked mode would eventually come to Fortnite.
Highlights of the Patch Notes for Fortnite Save the World
New event starts: The new series of event quests is called “Arr.” Players can obtain Blackbeard’s Black Heart, a pirate sword and Jack’s Revenge pistol as rewards.
There is also a new type of Llama: the pirate Llama is now available.
There is a treasure: Once per zone, there is now a map in chests and safes. Whoever follows it will find a treasure.
New Beta Storm: In “Re Supply”, the storm approaches quickly and the safe area does not remain stable for long. Players are supposed to quickly explore the map, destroy objects, and find items.
