Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) is so popular that it’s even being taught in schools. Because in the USA, a few students won a bet with a teacher and are now writing a chemistry paper related to Fortnite.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is by no means just a phenomenon on the internet. The colorful battle royale game has millions of fans, including a basketball professional who loves the game so much that he had custom Fortnite sneakers made.
By now, the game is also a topic of school tests!
“We want Fortnite instead of chemistry!”
At Tippecanoe High School in Ohio, teacher Mike McCray teaches chemistry. He has nothing to do with games. His students, however, are very much into them. Fortnite is particularly popular at the moment. Thus, students can relate more to the ideal loot routes or the values of the new Desert Eagle than to chemical compounds and processes.
For the Fortnite pros among the students, it would be great if Fortnite instead of chemistry was the topic of the final exam of the 2nd semester. Therefore, some students started a bet with their teacher.
“If we get enough retweets on Twitter, we’ll have Fortnite for the exam!
To establish their beloved Fortnite as an exam topic, they challenged their teacher Mike McCray: He should name a random number. He said, “6,700”. The students then said, “Bet we can get 6,700 retweets on Twitter for the idea of a Fortnite exam at school?”

Mike McCray countered and accepted the bet. From then on, it was necessary to gather enough retweets for the action. The tweet then went viral and was shared massively. Far more tweets came in than necessary: in the end, there were about 30,000 retweets!
Chemistry exam with Fortnite terminology
So, Mike McCray lost the bet. However, he also stated that he had no idea how Twitter worked and therefore had no idea whether the required 6,700 retweets were a lot or not. But a bet is a debt of honor.
Now McCray faces the new challenge of creating an exam with Fortnite references. He doesn’t know the game and now has to dive into it. However, one possibility could be a chemistry problem using Fortnite terminology. Because he doesn’t want (and can’t) deviate too much from the curriculum in the end.
Equation of Slurp Juice?
Nevertheless, the action is cool, and the students are likely to learn more for the “Fortnite chemistry exam” than they would for a regular exam with boring case studies. Possibilities include calculating the composition of a can of “Slurp Juice” from the game or the chemical structure of the metal walls that you can build in Fortnite.
