Since Patch 8.20, old rules are back in Fortnite. This makes the game slower. This annoys many players because especially collecting materials now takes significantly longer.
This annoys players: In Patch 8.20, old rules were reactivated that were valid until mid-February.
Players will no longer be rewarded for aggressive playstyles, and farming materials takes much longer.
Many players, including numerous professionals, are annoyed by the update. They have gotten used to the new rules and now have to adjust again.
This problem exists with the new rules
These rules have been changed: In Patch 7.40 about 6 weeks ago, there was a major change in the game. However, this rule change has now been revoked. Here is what’s new:
- There are no health points and shield points anymore after a kill
- The building materials dropped after a kill are no longer a maximum of 50/50/50
- Harvesting now yields 40% less materials
- The material limit is now back to 999
What does it mean for players? If you play particularly aggressively, you will no longer be truly rewarded for it.
It had been worthwhile in recent weeks if you made more kills, as you received more health for it.
Additionally, you now have to gather significantly more materials again, as there are significantly fewer resources from harvesting.
How does Epic explain this step? In the patch notes for Update 8.20, Epic explains this change as follows and refers to the changes from Patch 7.40: “We believe that these changes have led to an extremely aggressive playstyle, pushing other strategies to the background.” This is precisely why they have reversed it.
What do players say? Especially the few materials you now get annoy “normal” players. It is said on Reddit: “I can understand the health point change per kill, but do the majority of normal players really want to spend +40% of their time chopping down trees and hitting rocks? Why on earth should they increase the maximum material and decrease material gain?!”
I understand the health changes, but reversing these material changes? Just dumb. Collecting materials will become so damn boring again,” says StellarSkadi on Reddit.
Ninja says: Change is for the silent majority of casuals
Are there also positive voices? Some players think the change is correct and understand Epic’s point of view.
Streamer Ninja states that especially casual players neither complain on Twitter nor Reddit, but simply accept the new update quietly and happily:
You know who won’t be tweeting today? The dozens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of casual players who don’t care about social media and don’t have followers. Those who might have hated the last updates, but we will never know, because they don’t post it online, they don’t post on Reddit.
