Fortnite offers up to 2048 skins that you can snag in January 2025 – 1492 of them available only through the shop. Which ones are among the rarest can be found in this list.
What makes a skin rare? Depending on where you acquired or earned your skin, it may be considered rare. The following factors play a key role:
- The time period of its release
- How often the skin was available
- The popularity of the skin
In our list, we consider all skins that have ever been released – whether through the shop, the battle pass, or special events. Some of them might never return, as they were either temporarily available or strictly limited.
Our list now showcases the rarest skins and explains what makes them so rare. If you have suggestions or opinions about our ranking, feel free to share them in the comments. You can also jump to your desired section using our directory.
Rank 9: Travis Scott & Astro Jack
Travis Scott and Astro Jack first appeared in Chapter 2 Season 2, stayed in the shop for 6 days, and then disappeared forever. Both skins were originally released in collaboration with the Astroworld Tour. The reason they never returned is unclear.
Fans believe (via Reddit.com) that Epic Games distanced itself from Travis Scott after his real Astroworld concert ended in a disaster where people were injured and even lost their lives.
However, it is also possible that the reason is Travis Scott’s preference for rare and limited pieces, and thus his collection is intentionally limited. So far, it doesn’t look like his set will ever return.
Rank 8: Rue
Rue is the second skin from Chapter 2 Season 2 and belongs to the rarest ever. The return of this rather inconspicuous agent in red has been eagerly awaited by many fans since 2020, yet so far, Rue has only made it into the item shop for a whole day twice.
There is no clear reason for her limited edition, but fans have long speculated that skins land in the “vault” when they become too sensitive for Epic. In Rue’s case, it might have to do with her appearance.
Her clothing resembles the officer uniforms of the SS, which has earned Rue the nickname “Nazi skin”.
Rank 7: Shaman
The Shaman made his first appearance in Chapter 1 Season 8 and was available for purchase on 4 occasions in the shop. Since then, the skin has not made a single comeback and vanished into the vault indefinitely.
In fact, there are no theories regarding why the Shaman is limited. Based on our experience, however, we suspect that Epic Games did not continue to offer the skin because it did not sell well. If a skin is popular and not subject to limiting conditions, it will often be brought back to the shop.
However, if a skin is uninteresting and cannot impress fans, it will be brought back less frequently or not at all. Therefore, it is quite possible that the Shaman was simply not popular enough.
Rank 6: World Warrior
The World Warrior first appeared in Chapter 1 Season 9 for 3 days in the shop, coinciding with the World Cup 2019, which was won by the then-teenager “Bugha”. However, he was never seen again, and for good reason.
Epic Games releases limited skins for various events such as the FNCS. These are only available during the times the events take place. If you miss the time window, you’ve missed the skin too. Accordingly, the World Warrior will never return.
Rank 5: Reflex
Reflex appeared in Chapter 1 Season 6 as part of a promotional campaign with NVIDIA in the shop and remained there for 2 days before being sent to the vault. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return. There are also no theories regarding his banishment. We suspect that Reflex, like Shaman, was simply not popular enough, which is why they had no reason to offer the skin again in the shop.
Rank 4: Reaper
Reaper is the “Level 100” skin from the Battle Pass of Chapter 1 Season 3. As of now, it can no longer be obtained because skins from the Battle Pass are only temporarily available. The reason it is so rare is that Season 3 was not well-liked by players and a lot of XP was required to reach Level 100.
Rank 3: Rogue Agent
The Rogue Agent temporarily appeared in Chapter 1 Season 3 as a starter pack. Starter packs were meant to provide fans with an opportunity to get a skin set at a low price. The Rogue Agent was the first starter pack.
In fact, Epic Games brought the pack back to the shop two years after its release, but quickly removed it again. Those who were lucky managed to secure this piece of nostalgia; otherwise, you sadly have no chance of getting it anymore.
Rank 2: Galaxy
Galaxy was the first skin from the collaboration between Samsung and Fortnite, which could be obtained through a promotional campaign in Chapter 1 Season 5. Fans had to log in with their Samsung account on a Samsung device and play Fortnite there. After 3 rounds, they received a complete set consisting of a skin, back bling, pickaxe, and glider.
Unfortunately, the promotion was only short-lived, and anyone who missed the time window can only view the skin in pictures now.
Rank 1: Black Knight
The Black Knight is ranked as the rarest skin for good reason. He was the first skin from the first battle pass, which could be found at the last tier (then tier 70). Those who wanted to earn him had to grind for a long time. In Chapter 1 Season 2, Fortnite was not yet well known, building felt clunky, and the game had not yet impressed with good graphics.
These were the rarest skins in Fortnite currently available. Do you have any of them, or do you even own them all? In line with the Black Knight, a remix variant of the skin is supposed to return with Season 2: OG, if the teasers are to be believed.
