Fortnite offers up to 2619 skins to collect in January 2026 – 1940 of which are available through the shop alone. Which of these are the rarest, you will discover in this list.
What makes a skin rare? Depending on where you acquired or earned your skin, it may be considered rare. In particular, the following factors play a role:
- The timeframe of its release
- How often the skin was available
- The popularity of the skin
In our list, we consider all skins that have ever been released – whether through the shop, the Battle Pass, or special events. Some of them may never return as they were either temporarily available or strictly limited.
Our list now details the rarest skins and explains what makes them so rare. If you have suggestions or opinions on our ranking, feel free to share them in the comments. Additionally, our directory allows you to jump to your desired section.
Rank 9: Travis Scott & Astro Jack
Travis Scott and Astro Jack made their first appearance in Chapter 2 Season 2, stayed in the shop for 6 days, and then disappeared forever. Both skins were part of a collaboration with the Astroworld Tour. The reason for their never returning is unclear.
Fans believe (via Reddit.com) that Epic Games distanced itself from Travis Scott when his real Astroworld concert ended in a disaster in which people were injured and even lost their lives.
However, it is also possible that the reason is Travis Scott’s preference for rare and limited pieces, leading him to intentionally limit his collection. So far, it does not look like his set will ever return.
Rank 8: Rue
Rue is the second skin from Chapter 2 Season 2 that is among the rarest ever. The return of this rather inconspicuous red agent has been eagerly awaited by many fans since 2020, but so far Rue has only made it to the Item Shop twice for a full day.
There is no known reason for its limited availability, but fans have speculated for some time that skins end up in the “vault” when they are deemed too sensitive by Epic. In Rue’s case, this might have something to do with her appearance.
Her clothing resembles the officer uniforms of the SS, which has earned Rue the nickname “Nazi Skin”.
Rank 7: Shaman
The Shaman made his first appearance in Chapter 1 Season 8 and could be purchased on 4 occasions in the shop. Since then, the skin has not made a single comeback and has disappeared indefinitely into the vault.
In fact, there are no theories about why the Shaman is limited. From our own experience, we suspect that Epic Games did not continue to offer the skin because it did not sell well. If a skin is popular and not subject to limiting conditions, it will be brought back to the shop more often.
If a skin is unattractive and does not impress fans, it will be brought back less frequently or not at all. So it is quite possible that the Shaman was not popular enough.
Rank 6: World Warrior
The World Warrior first appeared in Chapter 1 Season 9 for 3 days in the shop, coinciding with the World Cup 2019, which the then-teenager “Bugha” won. However, he was never seen again, and there is a good reason for that.
Epic Games releases limited skins for various events like the FNCS. These are only available during the times that the events take place. If you miss the time window, you also miss out on the skin. Therefore, the World Warrior will never return.
Rank 5: Reflex
Reflex debuted in Chapter 1 Season 6 as part of a promotional campaign with NVIDIA in the shop and stayed there for 2 days before being vaulted. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return. Again, there are no theories regarding his banishment. We suspect that Reflex, like Shaman, was not popular enough, which is why there was no reason to offer the skin again in the shop.
Rank 4: Reaper
Reaper is the “Level 100” skin from the Battle Pass of Chapter 1 Season 3. As of now, it cannot be obtained as skins from the Battle Pass are only temporarily available. The reason for its rarity lies in the fact that Season 3 was not popular among players and a lot of XP was required to reach Level 100.
Rank 3: Rogue Agent
The Rogue Agent appeared temporarily as a starter pack in Chapter 1 Season 3. Starter packs were designed to offer fans a cost-effective way to acquire a skin set. Rogue Agent was the first starter pack.
In fact, Epic Games brought the pack back to the shop two years after its release but quickly removed it again. Those who were lucky could secure this piece of nostalgia; otherwise, unfortunately, there is no longer a chance to obtain it.
Rank 2: Galaxy
Galaxy was the first skin from the collaboration between Samsung and Fortnite and could be obtained through a promotional campaign in Chapter 1 Season 5. Fans had to log in with their Samsung account on a Samsung device and play Fortnite there. After 3 rounds, they would receive a complete set consisting of skin, back bling, pickaxe, and glider.
Unfortunately, the campaign was only for a short duration, and those who missed the time window can only look at the skin in pictures.
Rank 1: Black Knight
The Black Knight is ranked number 1 among the rarest skins for good reason. He was the first skin from the first Battle Pass that could be found at the last level (then level 70). Those who wanted to earn him had to grind for a long time. In Chapter 1 Season 2, Fortnite was not as well-known; building felt clumsy, and the game could not yet boast good graphics.
These were the rarest skins in Fortnite that currently exist. Do you have any of them, or do you even own them all? In line with the Black Knight, a remix version of the skin was released with Season 2: OG.
