In Fortnite , the pro player and YouTuber FaZe Jarvis (17) was banned for life by Epic. His clan leader, FaZe Banks, calls this ban “fucking ridiculous,” totally absurd. Others also accuse Epic of double standards. We explain what the allegations are about.
This is the situation: The 17-year-old YouTuber FaZe Jarvis has been banned for life from Fortnite by Epic. The boy had used an aimbot.
The ban has been discussed for days now.
On MeinMMO, a majority of readers believe that this ban is justified (via MeinMMO):
- Epic must set an example that cheating is unacceptable.
- Especially YouTubers have a responsibility: If they can cheat without consequences, many young viewers will follow suit.
- A 17-year-old must also understand the consequences of his actions.
- He knew he was doing something wrong; that’s why he was on a “smurf account.”
Therefore, many MeinMMO readers appreciate that Epic is taking such a firm stance. On our side, the ban is not controversial, but a clear matter.
Epic plays by double standards
This is what FaZe Banks says: But there are also people who defend FaZe Jarvis, such as his clan leader FaZe Banks.
Like many, he cites the case of Fortnite player XXiF to highlight the difference:
- FaZe Jarvis used an aimbot and was banned for life. He did not hide this and only did it to entertain his viewers.
- The player XXiF cheated alongside another player during the qualification for the Fortnite World Cup by making an agreement. However, he only received a 2-week ban and could still participate in the Fortnite World Cup. XXiF wanted to win money and “steal” a place at the World Cup with his behavior.
FaZe Banks says what Jarvis did was stupid – but he does not understand what it achieves to destroy the life of a 17-year-old and whether this is appropriate for the act.
This is crazy – Epic loves cheaters
This is what xQc says: The Twitch streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel echoes this sentiment. He cites the lenient punishment of XXiF as a reason why the ban for FaZe Jarvis is now “insane.”
Epic indicated with the 14-day ban that cheating is okay with them. They love cheaters. xQc is known for his irony, lack of impulse control, and penchant for exaggeration.
First too lenient, now too harsh
This is the problem: Epic is accused of “taking it easy” on an incident from April 2019.
The players XXiF and Ronaldo were banned from Fortnite for 14 days at that time for colluding to gain points to qualify for the World Cup through an agreement.
After the “14 days” ban expired, the two players were able to continue normally and qualify for the Fortnite World Cup. It was celebrated when they were eliminated at the World Cup.
The 14-day ban was seen at that time as “too mild” a punishment. The streamer DrLupo called the ban a “kick in the groin of the community.”
Players demanded that the two should have remained banned for at least the tournament during which they cheated.
Due to the significant discrepancy between the two punishments, the defenders of FaZe Jarvis want to make it clear that the 17-year-old does not deserve such a harsh penalty.
The YouTuber’s channel grows after ban
What about the boy’s YouTube channel? Remarkably, FaZe Jarvis’s subscriber count has increased since the ban instead of decreased. The streamer has gained over 100,000 new subscribers on YouTube in recent days.
The video about the ban has now 6.6 million views and is the second most popular video on the channel.
The Twitch streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins mentions other reasons to lessen the punishment for FaZe Jarvis:
