Fortnite seems to have a taste for the limited-time modes. Alongside “Infinity Gauntlet,” the mode featuring Thanos, another special mode is now active in Fortnite: Battle Royale: 50vs50 v2. Could it be that some criticism arose regarding the Thanos mode?
Take 2. This hasn’t happened before. Normally, only one special mode is active in Fortnite at a time. In addition to Solo, Duo, and Squad, there is the “Limited Time Mode” (LMT). This week, it is actually the massively announced Marvel mashup “Infinity Gauntlet.” But since last night, a second mode has been active.
More is always better. Fortnite is unexpectedly bringing back the “50vs50 v2” mode. Here, 50 players on each side face off against each other. What usually is a “Everyone against Everyone” individual fight becomes a massive battle in the limited-time mode.
The Thanos mode is a huge PR fun, but there is also criticism
Exception or new rule? Whether this is the norm now, that multiple special modes run simultaneously, is not known. It could be that an exception was made due to the special nature of the Thanos mode. Because the “Infinity Gauntlet” mode is indeed a big PR fun and initially received a lot of applause, but after a few days, criticism of “Infinity Gauntlet” has arisen.
Criticism of Thanos. While the “Thanos” mode is a spectacle, not everyone likes the mode. Due to the presence of Thanos in “Infinity Gauntlet,” there is a massive target in the game, which changes the dynamics of Fortnite: Battle Royale. Some believe that the mode was not well thought out. Many (including John Wicks) ignore Thanos and just shoot at the Thanos hunters. Epic has already attempted to adjust the mode twice. Thanos is also vulnerable against the so-called “Skybases.” It could be that the “50vs50 v2” mode is now being introduced to address the critics. But there is no official statement regarding this.
Adaptable developers. Epic is known for quickly picking up trends and opinions from the community and responding to them in the game. Perhaps Epic shows internal numbers that indicate a need to react. It is certainly unusual for two modes to be active simultaneously.
The exact rules for the “50vs50 v2” mode are explained here.
