In the dispute between the Fortnite star and Twitch streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney and the eSports organization FaZe, there is a new development. The contract has now been leaked to an online site. According to the contract, the Twitch star receives a salary of $2000 per month and is supposed to give up to 80% of his earnings.
This is the situation: The streamer Tfue is one of the major success stories of Fortnite in 2018. Within a year, he grew from a small streamer who was excited in February 2018 because he killed Ninja and posted it on reddit, to one of the largest solo streamers in the world.
In May 2019, Tfue with 6 million followers is the third-largest streamer on Twitch, only Shroud and Ninja are ahead of him.
In contrast to many other streamers, Tfue even qualified for the Fortnite World Cup and is considered one of the top players.
In April 2018, Tfue signed a contract with the eSports organization FaZe, which he wanted to terminate as early as September 2018 – but FaZe won’t let him.
Now he has filed a lawsuit to get out of the contract – but so far the public didn’t even know about this contract, which Tfue described as a gag contract. It was kept under wraps.
Tfue demanded to make the contract public – FaZe agreed but needed more time.
Where did the contract come from now? The site “Blast” has received and published the contract. They only say that the source that leaked the contract to them does not belong to the FaZe clan.
How long does the contract last? The contract was signed on April 27, 2018, and initially lasted 6 months. After that, the contract automatically extended for 3 years until the end of 2021.
6 million followers – $2000 salary
How much money does Tfue earn with the contract? He receives $2000 per month as a fixed amount. That is about 1786€.
The tricky part is that the FaZe clan is entitled to between 20% and 80% of many earnings that Tfue earns as a Fortnite player.
FaZe is supposed to get 50% of what Tfue earns from in-game merchandise.
In addition, FaZe is entitled to 20% of his tournament prize money. If they arrange a deal with a sponsor for Tfue, the contract even allows them to keep 80% of the earnings.
However, the clan gets nothing from Tfue’s direct earnings from YouTube or Twitch; it is mainly about deals, appearance fees, prize money, and “in-game merchandise”, such as the content creator code.
This is still tricky: The contract states
- Tfue may not speak about the contract
- If Tfue violates certain behavioral rules, he can be terminated. Then he must sit out a 6-month suspension during which he may not play publicly, neither online nor at tournaments
Clan says: We offered him millions
This is what the clan says: Although the FaZe clan has not yet publicly acknowledged this leaked contract, it is clear that they now look at the contract critically.
The clan boss Banks has already said that they offered Tfue a new contract multiple times with a salary of $1 million and no revenue share.
Also, the clauses in the contract were never enforced; they only took 20% of 2 sponsor deals that they had arranged for Tfue. That would be about $60,000.
Tfue would have earned millions during his time under FaZe, and he himself, Banks, would have made Tfue “possible”.
