As Epic reports, private matchmaking is currently being tested in Fortnite: Battle Royale, known as custom games. Some streamers invite their communities to participate in these private games. Will the long-awaited feature “Private Match” come to Fortnite soon?
Do you have friends you would like to challenge in Fortnite: Battle Royale? Until now, this has not been possible – those who create a squad play cooperatively with their team, not competitively. This could soon change!
Because Epic is currently testing private matchmaking with a few selected streamers. And they are actively using the feature. When it will be made available to the public is still unknown – however, if the tests prove promising, it should not be long before you can challenge your friends!
Playing Hide and Seek in Fortnite during Private Matches? Why not?
Some streamers are already inviting to modified game variants. For instance, streamer DrLupo (who might be known to some from the Destiny scene) invited his community to test private matchmaking.
Instead of shooting each other, DrLupo preferred to play Hide & Seek – players hide on the map and must be found. In fact, private matches allow for all sorts of ideas:
- No weapons allowed
- Only pistols
- Team divisions
Since everything can be agreed upon beforehand, the possibilities are endless. Those who have many friends playing Fortnite are likely to find happiness with private matchmaking.

However, some things are still unclear.
What team sizes are allowed? Which modes are affected?
Unfortunately, this information is not provided by the tweet. However, it is not ruled out that all team variants and special modes can be played. Whether specific parameters such as excluded weapons or healing items can be set is also unclear.
What do you think of a private game mode?
The article originally appeared in January 2018, when the mode was spotted for the first time on PC.

The button has now also been spotted in Fortnite on PS4 and Xbox One
Update: After a long quiet period regarding custom games in Fortnite, a corresponding button has now appeared in April 2018 in the interface of players on PS4 and Xbox One. They are understandably curious about what they can do with it.
The button appeared with update 3.5.1 – a bug fix patch.
However, there is still no further information regarding the button. It is possible that Epic is still giving selected streamers the opportunity to host these private games with their followers on PS4 and Xbox One.
Currently, the button for “Custom Game” is only available for streamers and selected content creators. Regular players in Fortnite cannot use it as of now.
