The rise of players into the arena has already begun, with a shadow already looming over the playing field: the omnipotence of the prehistoric shotgun. This new weapon from Season 6 in Fortnite, which deals colossal damage with a sustained rate of fire, is making life difficult for the pros.
Which weapon is meant? The meta for the launch of Fortnite Season 6 is one of the most innovative so far. A whole array of new bows replaces sniper rifles and players have to upgrade their arsenal with bones and metal gears. However, one weapon has quickly come into the spotlight of competition – and criticism – and that is the prehistoric shotgun.
This large drum cannon, which requires no scope, has been identified by most professional players as extremely powerful.
A weapon that pros say urgently needs a nerf
How Fortnite pros react to the weapon: The pros are quick to express their displeasure when a weapon in the game is too powerful, and now they pointed fingers at the prehistoric shotgun. Too high a rate of fire, a lot of damage, and all this without requiring much skill. The new shotgun has even managed to push the epic and legendary pump shotgun to the back pages of Fortnite news: that says something!
A pro says on Twitter:
It is unlikely that Epic Games will remove this new weapon any time soon, but we can expect a nerf to come soon.
No nerfs in the pre-season
For the first time, Epic Games has implemented a pre-season for the competitive scene in Season 6. This transitional phase lasted a week and served to gather player feedback so that the developers could quickly create hotfixes. Epic Games could be glad that they did not introduce any outliers in this first season meta, except that the prehistoric shotgun, so to speak, slipped through the cracks.
It will still be a few weeks until the Fortnite Champion Series resumes, so a nerf is conceivable by then. But the pros seem to be impatiently waiting for a nerf.
