Today, on May 16th, the servers in Fortnite for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS will go offline for maintenance. Anyone trying to log in will likely encounter issues. During the downtime, a new patch will be applied, bringing the new FAMAS burst assault rifle along with a long-awaited feature for PvE content.
Since Season 4 started on a Tuesday, the maintenance plans have changed as well. Originally, the new update was supposed to be applied yesterday, May 15th. However, Epic identified issues on short notice – and delayed update 4.2.
However, it should definitely come today:
- Matchmaking will be disabled around 9:30 AM German time
- From 10:00 AM German time (8:00 GMT), the servers will be taken offline
How long will the Fortnite servers be down? When the maintenance work will be completed is still unknown. If no incidents occur, you should be able to log in again around noon.
Update: Since about 11:40 AM, the servers are back online. The patch has a size of 2.44 GB on PC. Here are the patch notes:
What can Battle Royale players look forward to with update 4.2? A new weapon will be introduced – the FAMAS. It will elevate the burst assault rifle to epic (purple) and legendary (orange) quality levels.
Generally, players are rather skeptical – burst assault rifles have a disadvantage due to measures such as perfect initial accuracy, as only the first shot of a burst benefits from this bonus.
The raw numbers from the current patch notes indicate that the FAMAS is an improvement over standard burst assault rifles: It deals 32 (epic) and 33 (legendary) damage per hit. The blue version only reaches 30 points!
If you can land two bursts completely on the opponent and achieve a headshot, every opponent is history – regardless of their shield. However, that sounds easier than it is – especially at range, you will also face problems with the FAMAS due to the damage penalty.
It is also known now that no weapon needs to be removed from the pool. Neither the suppressed submachine gun nor the C4 remote explosive have to go. The suppressed SMG has even been significantly buffed: It now deals 3 more damage across the board, restores aim accuracy 25 percent faster after a shot, and only becomes weaker at medium range.
What can “Save the World” players look forward to? A long-awaited feature with the cumbersome name Perk Recombobulator. The Perk Recombobulator lets you reroll your weapons!
According to the roadmap Epic released a few weeks ago, PvE players can also look forward to new repeatable event quests and the new Quad Launcher!
