What is happening today in Fortnite? The update 17.30 was announced by Fortnite Status on Twitter and is scheduled to be deployed today (via Twitter.com). The patch seems to revolve around UFOs and their technology that you can hold in your hands.

Downtime starts in the morning: The downtime for the update started at around 07:30 AM German time. At about 6:30 AM, you could join a new match for the last time, after which the servers were shut down and Fortnite went down.
How long will the maintenance take? Based on the experiences of the last weeks and months, the work should be completed around the morning hours. A downtime of about 3 hours is expected.

When will the patch notes be released? Based on the experience from recent updates in the new chapter of Fortnite, it is likely that there will be no or only superficial patch notes released for the battle royale mode.

What new content does update 17.30 bring?
This is what Epic says: Just before the server downtime, the Fortnite team tweeted about “A UFO in your hands” (via Twitter.com). It’s about alien equipment that presumably can interact with walls, cars, rocks, and even bushes.
What kind of item is this? It is speculated that Epic is talking about the Grab-Itron item with this announcement. Data miner HYPEX showed the item on his Twitter channel on July 22:
In the description of the Grab-Itron, it states that you can “grab things and throw them against other things.” Furthermore, you can rotate the grabbed objects with the reload button.
Whether this is indeed the item we are talking about will only become clear once the servers are active again.
But the description “A UFO in your hands” certainly matches the appearance and the supernatural powers.
