Today, on Wednesday, January 15, the Fortnite servers will go down on all platforms (PC/Mac, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS, Android). During this time, the new update 11.40 will be deployed. What does the new patch include?
What is happening today in Fortnite? After more than a month of waiting, there will finally be an update in Fortnite today. This update will hopefully fix a few bugs and bring new content.
Fortnite Status announced the update 11.40 on Twitter.
Before players can go on an adventure, as usual, the servers will be taken offline.
Update 1:20 PM: The update 11.40 is now available. We will show you in the German patch notes what has changed in the game.
Fortnite servers will go down – when and for how long?
Downtime starts in the morning: At 9:30 AM German time, you may join a new lobby for the last time. At 10 AM, the servers will no longer be reachable and Fortnite will be down.
How long will the maintenance last? Based on experiences from the past weeks and months, the work should be completed around noon.
However, technical issues or other delays may extend the maintenance. If this is the case, you will find out here.
When will the patch notes be released? Fortnite Status announced on Twitter that more information would be available once the downtime is over. We hope that the developers will then publish proper patch notes again. Epic Games has been rather sparse with many updates recently.

What new content does the update 11.40 bring?
What will be new in the Battle Royale mode? Fortnite Status did not give any hints in the tweet about what the update could bring. However, these changes could come:
- Additional Overtime Challenges, where you can unlock purple variants for the Battle Pass skins (like the purple Remedy/Toxin Skin)
- Bug fixes
If you want to take a closer look at the current bugs in Fortnite, you can do so on the Fortnite Trello board. There, all known bugs are listed.
What does the update bring for the “Save the World” mode? Players are waiting for the finished locker feature, which should be available in “Save the World”.
This will allow you to use the locker from the Battle Royale mode and customize your hero with the cosmetics you own. It remains to be seen whether with update 11.40 it will actually be possible to fully use the locker.
