In Fortnite the servers will go down today, January 18th, across all platforms (PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Android). The maintenance will be used to upload a hotfix to the servers.
What is happening today in Fortnite? The servers in Fortnite will be shut down again. However, this is a larger update that is likely to fix some issues in the game and may bring new items into the game. You will find out when you can play again with us.
We have listed all the important patch notes for update 23.20.
What new content does the hotfix bring?
A new gadget – The Falcon Drone: The Falcon Drone is a new item that you can find on the ground, in chests as well as in oath-bound chests and supply drops. With it, you can scout the area, mark enemies from afar, or even go looting. If a teammate is killed, you can transport his body to a safe location with the drone.
However, be careful when controlling the drone, as you will not be able to move your character and will be more vulnerable to attacks from enemies.
New reality augmentations: Epic Games has introduced 5 new reality augmentations to the game with patch 23.20. These are as follows:
- Shady’s Treasure: You receive a treasure map that leads you to a buried treasure.
- Shotgun Specialist: When you hit an opponent with your shotgun, your health is restored.
- Rarity Gain: Common and uncommon weapons receive lifesteal on eliminations.
- Zero Point Boost: You temporarily gain the zero-point boost ability when you break an opponent’s shields.
- Danger Pro: When your shields break, you temporarily gain health regeneration and increased movement speed.
Upgrade for hired players: NPCs that you hire for bars of gold now also enter your vehicle and ride along with you.
Dynamic 3D resolution on PC: If you play on PC, you can now activate dynamic 3D resolution on your PC since update 23.20. This adapts your framerate and resolution according to your setup.
Competitive notes:
- The reality augmentation “Rarity Gain” is not available in competitive game modes.
Important bug fixes:
- The bug that caused Deku’s Smash to be disabled in Battle Royale and No Build modes has been fixed. Deku’s Smash has been reactivated in these modes.
- The bugs while climbing have been fixed, where players were sometimes thrown across the entire map.
- A bug has been fixed where sprinting was not possible for an entire match in some cases.
- The reality augmentations can now again be unlocked via teammates.
- Players can now consistently deal damage to objects with their pickaxes.
- Players can now select reality augmentations while being on an all-terrain motorcycle.
- Players can now use the Guardian Shield while on the back of an OG Bears or an all-terrain motorcycle.
Fortnite: Server Down – When and how long are they offline?
This is the downtime in the morning: The servers will be shut down according to Epic Games at 10:00 AM German time to install a hotfix. The matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior, so you won’t be able to search for new rounds from 9:30 AM.
When can you play again? This is a relatively large update. It is therefore likely that Epic Games could get the servers back up at 11 AM or even 12 PM. However, this is not confirmed.
When do the patch notes come? Epic Games usually publishes a short list of patch notes on their site after the update. If that happens, we will list them for you here briefly and clearly.
