Fortnite has existed for 6 years now, and those who have been there since the beginning have a huge collection of skins in their locker. Many players are now wondering after all these years why they carelessly bought so many skins, even though they only play a fraction of them.
What are fans discussing? A post about skins appeared on Reddit. User Mister-Squidward asked the Reddit community if he was stupid for having bought 236 skins, but only using 15-20 from his collection.
The thread exploded in just 2 days with 4000 upvotes, and even prompted many players in the comments to share their opinions about the contributor’s locker. Many are in the same situation, but some fans can even explain Mister-Squidward’s unrestrained desire to buy.
FOMO and Exclusivity of Skins
How have fans expressed themselves? In the comments, many voices can be heard from those who have a large collection of skins, but only play a few of them. Fans write the following:

- “You and I both. I have around 300 (skins), what I like to do is randomly select a skin so it changes every game” – advises Disastrous_Duck_3252

- “I, who has 620 and only uses 1 (Color Crush)” – confesses scuffedoncringe
Despite this, the urge to buy in Fortnite can also be explained in the form of FOMO, as Reddit user fmxrcuryy admits. The Fortnite shop rotates every day at a specific time. Some skins appear often over several weeks, while others are exclusive and can only be purchased on certain days before being pushed into the vault for several years.
This creates a purchasing urge for many players, as they want to secure that one skin that they might otherwise miss out on. One could never forgive oneself for not having that one skin available when they want to use it.
Your MeinMMO author Christos Tsogos has also splurged and owns over 300 skins, but only uses one of them. Half of them are shop skins. So if you were to ask me now if I would spend that much money in Fortnite again, I would rather invest or save my money. Despite this, I now have a respectable collection and hopefully, I can still admire it after 5 years.
