In Fortnite, the servers will go down today, September 28, on all platforms (PC/Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Android). The downtime will be used to deploy the new Update 18.10. We will summarize all changes from MeinMMO here.
What is happening today in Fortnite? An update was announced a week ago on Twitter. There, Epic Games addressed important changes regarding the XP system. They will strive to find a good solution so that the current XP system no longer feels like a grind.
To ensure you don’t miss anything, we at MeinMMO will update the article for you, so you are always up to date.
Fortnite servers go down – when and for how long?
Downtime in the morning: The servers will shut down at 10 AM our time to roll out Update 18.10. Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior, so you won’t be able to play after 09:30 AM.
When can you play again? The servers will be offline for quite a while, and playing will not be possible. The downtime is expected to last between 30 minutes and 2 hours. This has been shown by the updates of recent weeks.
Of course, technical problems and delays can always occur during such work. If complications arise, we will report on them.
When will the patch notes come? Normally, Epic Games releases little to no information about the update changes in the Battle Royale mode. These are often discovered by the community themselves.
If important changes come up, we will also update this article for you.
What new content does Update 18.10 bring?
What’s new for Battle Royale mode? We aren’t entirely sure about the changes yet, but leaks and data miners have often proven to be reliable sources in the past. Here’s what you can possibly expect:
Revised XP System: Since the beginning of Season 8, the current XP system has been criticized. In Battle Royale mode, players received too few XP for completing a match, and other sources of XP, such as the “Stowaway” mode, were modified by Epic, reducing the amount of earned XP by 50%.
The community expressed their concerns on social networks like Reddit and Twitter, demanding a revision of the system. When Epic Games learned of this, they announced positive revisions to the XP system, and now the community is eagerly awaiting the changes.
More color bottles for Cartoon Fish: With the new Season 8, a special skin has been added to the Battle Pass. This is called “Cartoon Fish” and can be dyed in various colors with collected color bottles. New color bottles may also be introduced to unlock more styles.
These color bottles can be found and collected in certain locations on the Battle Royale map. If you still need the first batch, we have a guide for you on the current locations:
New Item: Hypex, the well-known leaker from the Fortnite scene, posted on Twitter that a new item will come to Fortnite.
This item works like the 6-pack Chug Splash, but with a few changes in effect. Now you won’t get shields added, but you and your teammates will receive a speed boost and healing worth 20 HP.
Other minor changes that could come include:
- Preparations for the Halloween event “Fortnitemares 2021”
- New weapons like the Combat AR or Combat SMG
- New POI at the Sweat City “Tilted Towers”
- Changes to Steamy Stacks
- New skins or styles
The most important information about the patch notes
In the following paragraphs, you will find all the new features from the update.
Get XP for completed tasks
Epic Games has ensured that players can finally receive XP for completed tasks. As Hypex notes in this Twitter post, players will now get XP for completed tasks.
New styles for Battle Pass skins and Cartoon Fish
Shiina, another well-known leaker from Fortnite, shows in a Twitter post what new styles you can expect. There will once again be three stages of extra styles inspired by Kevin, the Cube.
Additionally, there are 20 new styles for the Cartoon Fish skin. We will add these in our guide so you can have an overview.
Cubes continue to cause chaos
It seems that the intact Steamy Stacks has also been affected. It was already known in Chapter 2 Season 1 that this power plant draws its energy from the mysterious substance of these cubes.
It looks like one of the cubes has decided to stop playing energy source and has created a huge hole in Steamy Stacks.
New Fortnitemares skins
As Halloween in Fortnite is approaching, Epic Games has already made preparations. There are four new skins that would fit the spooky yet mysterious setting.
New POI fitting the cubes
Resourceful leakers have also discovered a new POI that is not yet in the game. This location seems to correspond to an abstract formation of cubes.
This POI is stocked with many chests – this will surely cause a lot of commotion in the matches.
New items have been added and will await us
Two new items have been added. One is Akimbo crossbows that have now been added to the game. This is a great change from the known rifles and shotguns that are abundant.
These weapons could create a new weapon class in Fortnite if they succeed.
The second item is the 6-pack Chili Splash. These provide a speed boost and heal lost HP.
