In this week, Fortnite “Save the World” receives the major update 4.2. The most important feature in the new patch for PC, PS4, and Xbox One: “The Perk Recombobulator.” This hides a feature that should add more depth to Fortnite.
Re-roll weapons? In English, this is called “Perk Recombobulator.” Normally, this is a typical RPG feature that shooter players know from titles like Destiny or The Division. Players can re-roll the properties of a weapon or trap as if it were freshly dropped.
Set directly: In Fortnite, it’s a bit different: here you can directly choose the perks without re-rolling.
It gets complicated in the mid-game
For advanced players: Weapons can only be redefined once players have progressed somewhat in the campaign. The Storm Shield Defense 2 in Plankerton must be completed. This approximately marks the beginning of Fortnite’s mid-game. It can take a few hours to get there. There are also new crafting items for the system that drop from Plankerton.
Specific perks for specific slots: Not every property can fit into any slot of a weapon; that would be unfair. Only specific properties fit into specific slots. The new items that players find after 4.2 will adhere to the new system. Each property can then be upgraded up to level 5. The elemental damage can also be determined.
Re-equipping existing weapons and traps with properties
First, do your homework: Before Fortnite players can fully dive into the system, they must first re-roll their existing weapons, the “legacy weapons and traps.” Because they also need to be adapted to the new system. This will be quite tedious.
The system has three major ideas:
- Players should be able to choose which properties their favorite weapon has
- They should be able to further develop the individual properties (there are 5 levels)
- And professionals should be able to build weapons so that the individual properties harmonize with each other and become even stronger

More depth in Fortnite Save the World
Problem already recognized: Those who now say: “Then I will combine crit chance and increased crit damage and become a super tier” – Epic is clever, too. They anticipated this and will adjust the crit rating with the patch to maintain balance. It will be less beneficial to stack crit chance. Each individual point will bring less the higher the overall value is.
Why all this? Epic wants to bring more depth to Fortnite “Save the World” and make items generally more interesting.
Helping pays off
More gold for Storm Shield Defense: Additionally, with patch 4.2, it will be more rewarding to help others complete the Storm Shield defenses. There should be more mini llamas and thus more gold. Currently, it is relatively tedious to help others defend their bases, and you gain too little from it.
When is the patch coming? We should expect the patch around Tuesday if Epic adheres to the schedule of the last weeks. When Fortnite “Save the World” becomes free in 2018, is unfortunately still open.
Recently, Fortnite has been making some progress in PvE:
