Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, Xbox One) is now also available for mobile, for Apple devices on iOS. First players were able to test the new mobile version and show the significant differences in gameplay.
Fortnite: Battle Royale has already attracted millions of players on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Now the colorful battle royale hit is set to conquer mobile devices. The initial phase begins with the current devices from Apple running the iOS operating system.
First gamers were able to gain access to the game and share their first experiences.
Fortnite on Mobile: The Differences – Sounds to “see”
Many players find that the iOS version of Fortnite: Battle Royale hardly differs from the original on PC, PS4, or Xbox One at first glance. However, there are quite a few differences in gameplay that become noticeable when playing on iPad or iPhone:
- The touchscreen controls: On the iOS device, you cannot use a controller . Instead, you move with your left thumb over a button on the screen. Double-tap activates sprint mode. With your right hand, you can reach small buttons to aim, crouch, and jump.
- Shooting and aim assist: If you want to shoot at someone, you just tap your target with your finger. You reload with a tap on your ammunition indicator. To help you hit better, there is an aim assist. This is not meant to feel like cheating, but to ensure you hit a bit better and thus have more fun and success in the game. So, a kind of equal opportunity for everyone.
- Auto-looting: In the PC and console version, only ammunition is automatically picked up. Everything else has to be looted with button presses. Since this is a bit cumbersome on mobile devices, there is an auto-loot feature. You pick up everything you touch. This is convenient, but can also cause problems. It might be unfortunate if you pick up an unwanted item while fleeing, cluttering your inventory.
- Visible sounds: Since many players play mobile games on the go in trains, public places, or open offices, they often play without sound. However, in a battle royale game, it is crucial that you hear your opponents’ footsteps or are aware when someone is shooting at you. The game uses white and red markers that indicate the direction from which the sounds are coming.

You can currently only play the iOS version of Fortnite if you receive an invitation. Register with Epic Games and with a bit of luck, you will receive an invitation.
The Android version of Fortnite, however, is still a bit away.
