As part of the current Pro-Am tournament, Epic Games announced new player numbers for Fortnite. 125 million players have played Fortnite within a year – even surpassing League of Legends.
Imagine if all the inhabitants of Germany and Argentina combined played Fortnite. Sounds unbelievable? In fact, that many people play Fortnite, which since yesterday is no longer just “perceived” as one of the biggest games on this planet.
As part of the Pro-Am tournament taking place last night, Epic announced that Fortnite has now grown to 125 million players. Fortnite launched in July 2017, so this impressive number was achieved in just one year.
Fortnite surpasses League of Legends
What was previously only evidenced by the viewership numbers on Twitch now also concretely applies to the player count. For comparison: According to Riot, 100 million players logged in monthly in 2016, with a daily player count of 27 million.
With the now achieved 125 million players, Fortnite is clearly ahead of the MOBA flagship.
However, there are things that the numbers do not reveal (presumably for good reason):
- What is the division of players between the PvE mode Save the World and the Battle Royale part?
- Are the 125 million a peak value ever reached? When was that time?
- How many players actually log in daily?
What are the player numbers for the “Save the World” mode? Nothing is known about the player numbers in “Save the World” mode. However, it is a more than obvious sign that Fortnite: Battle Royale is now available on the Nintendo Switch – yet the Save the World mode is not (which technically would have been possible).
