In Fortnite there is now a major change for all players on the Nintendo Switch. They are now playing against mobile users and no longer against console players. They will probably have it significantly easier.
So it was before: For about 5 months, since Sony eased its stance on crossplay, Switch players have been complaining that they had to play together and against console players from PS4 and Xbox.

This is new: Since the latest patch 8.10, this is changing.
Switch players now share the lobby with mobile players. They are now competing in random matches against players who play Fortnite on a smartphone or tablet.
Therefore, a lot is changing: Until now, the Switch community felt disadvantaged because of the strong competition and because they felt at a disadvantage compared to players on PS4 and Xbox One.
Now they should have it easier against the mobile users. However, these are now in an uproar.
That’s why there is the change
This is what Epic says: The developers explained the step as follows: “We expect an overall better gameplay experience per game for mobile and Switch players.” They are hoping for improvement through the change.
That’s why the change is coming: Many players on the Nintendo Switch felt disadvantaged. Players on the PS4 and Xbox have completely different possibilities for playing:
- Players on PS4 and Xbox One had more experience – Fortnite only came late to the Switch
- PS4 and Xbox One offer better performance
- And the controllers of the Switch are probably not optimal for shooters, as many players find
What are the mobile players saying now? The community of mobile users is now divided. For example, a Reddit user says: “Go ahead and give us mobile players all the kids with their Switch. It just makes it easier for us!”
Other players now feel disadvantaged because on the Switch the player likely has significant advantages over mobile users. Just the screen is already bigger and you have proper buttons to operate.
Can you still play together with other consoles? If your friends have a PS4 and you have a Switch, then that’s not a problem at all. Matchmaking only applies to public lobbies. You can still invite your friends to play, no matter what platform they are on.
