The stream of Ninja on New Year’s Eve about Fortnite was indeed a great success. However, one scene of utter failure will probably stick. Because New York did not want to dance the floss in the rain.
This was the stream: The Twitch star Tyler “Ninja” Blevins held a marathon stream of 12 hours on New Year’s Eve. He broadcasted live above Times Square in New York, the New Year’s Eve center of the USA. It is estimated that about 1 million people are there every year to celebrate the New Year.
He was joined by TimTheTatman, DrLupo, Courage, and other guests, stars, and celebrities.
Even though the year 2018 was fantastic for Ninja and the stream was a success, one moment of the evening is going around the world and it is not advantageous for Ninja.
This is the moment of failure: In the pouring rain, Ninja urges the crowds in New York to do the “floss.” This is the floss dance.
The camera kindly focuses on some individuals who are dancing along. However, the crowd ignores Ninja and does not think of moving.
The Twitch chat has considered this a bad idea from the beginning. In that moment, Ninja probably realizes that he should not have done that when he turns to the audience.
The clip had 250,000 viewers within a few hours. It is now at 366,000.
This is what Ninja says afterwards: Ninja tweets that night the sensible advice: “Don’t try to make a million New Yorkers dance in the rain for New Year. Trust me on this one.”
Ninja actually comes from Illinois. He seems to have underestimated that New Yorkers are not exactly known for being an easy audience and being swept away by the moment.
Even during the live stream, Ninja jokes about his own idea and says to his buddy DrLupo: “It’s freezing out here. Have you ever tried to get a million people, freezing their butts off, to do the floss on New Year’s? Neither have I!”
