A new limited-time mode is available in Fortnite: Battle Royale: Blitz. How do the faster matches play? We tested the mode.
Epic continues to work on new limited-time modes that are meant to provide a constantly fresh gaming experience. In fact, the game can change significantly through these modes. A few weeks ago, only legendary quality weapons could be found, which gave the rounds a completely different feeling.
The new mode is called “Blitz” (in English, simply Blitz): The maximum game duration is significantly reduced. Instead of the usual 25 minutes, a round in the Blitz mode ends after just 15 minutes.
Even on the spawn island, you are greeted by the storm, a truly eerie setting. While flying over the map, the edge of the storm is already visible. So there isn’t much time left to search for equipment. Epic compensates for this shortcoming by ensuring you find more of everything. Sounds cool? It is!
More resources, more loot – more action?
To reduce the time needed to gather equipment and materials, Epic is making a few changes for the new mode:
- Chests spawn at their target locations with an 80 to 90 percent probability (normally it’s 50 to 70 percent),
- Ammo crates can be found with a probability of 85 to 95 percent.
- The items on the ground are practically guaranteed to be available!
- Supply drops come in every 80 seconds instead of in three-minute intervals, and
- Launch pads are found much more frequently than in the normal game mode.
Epic is also lending a hand when it comes to resource gathering:
- The resource gain from harvesting is doubled,
- In treasure chests, you receive 100 units of a resource instead of the usual 30!
What does this mean for the gameplay? Specifically, the part immediately after landing is significantly streamlined. You still have to collect resources and equipment, but you now receive much more and are thus ready for combat more quickly.
With the reduced map size from the beginning, 100 players land in a smaller area – the action thus starts immediately.
The twist: Since you will literally be swimming in building materials, you can build to your heart’s content. The Blitz mode is not least a battle of architects.
Conclusion: Blitz is the perfect game mode for those in a hurry and architects
For those who find the beginning of a round of Fortnite: Battle Royale “tedious” and lengthy, the Blitz mode is sure to be a hit. You land right in the center of the action and can get started immediately.
The concentration of players is increased, and the abundance of building materials promises intense battles. However, those who have not really warmed up to the building mode will not likely scream for joy about the Blitz mode.
Even those with little time can easily squeeze in a round of “Blitz”. With the maximum game time reduced by a full 10 minutes, those in a hurry will definitely get their money’s worth.
Highlight for me: Just three hours after players wished for the Blitz mode as a solo variant, Epic delivered. This was also sorely needed, as solo players have no chance against the high concentration of opponents in the team variant.
You can now also tackle the Blitz mode solo. A strong reaction from Epic (even if it cannot be proven whether there is a direct connection between the request and the reaction).
There are already voices in the Fortnite subreddit calling for the Blitz mode to be made permanently available. This will probably not happen – but it shows that Epic can indeed bring fresh air to Fortnite: Battle Royale with new modes.
