The latest update for Fortnite: Battle Royale is live. This distributes weapon vending machines across the map and brings the new mode “High Explosives v2.” We look at the patch notes for 3.4
Epic pulled a fast one on us and moved the patch up by a day. Normally, Thursday is patch day for Fortnite, this time it’s already Wednesday.
The patch isn’t a big deal, as it’s a “content update” that went live without downtime. Next week, the servers will go down for maintenance again.
After a PS4 update causing a stir with 10 gigabytes today, this is now the regular weekly patch bringing new content to Fortnite.

Vending Machines – this is how they work
The vending machines are the weapon vending machines that want resources in exchange for items. They were discovered through a glitch a few days ago. But only now do we learn how the vending machines actually work in Fortnite:
- Each machine sells 3 different types of items. One for materials wood, stone, or metal. You can wait for the offer to change or you hit it with the pickaxe and the machine offers another item from its repertoire.
- Depending on the quality of the machine, the items cost between 100 (white) and 500 (gold) materials.
- You can buy as many items as you want.
New Mode High Explosives v2
The rules for the new mode “High Explosives v2” in brief:
- There is no friendly fire
- Only explosive weapons are available
- The first 4 storms come faster
- And items drop plentifully, especially ammunition and grenades. The guided rocket launcher will be found significantly more often.
Additionally, Epic has significantly adjusted the weapon balance of Fortnite Battle Royale.
