In Fortnite: Save the World, major changes are coming this week. Almost all menus are being revamped. Gameplay systems are also being completely overhauled, revised, and expanded. Additionally, a revolver known to Destiny players is coming.
Major overhaul begins: The PvE mode of Fortnite: Save the World was supposed to become free and officially release in 2018. However, Epic cancelled that: they want to conduct extensive renovations to the game first.
The stated goal is to make the many scattered menus clearer. Save the World is supposed to become more accessible.
The renovation is set to begin this week with the major patch 6.3. “Save the World” has so much in store that has not been seen in a long time.
Major overhaul coming this week
What’s happening this week: The most important thing is that all menus in “Save the World” will be reworked at least on the surface. New gameplay systems and features are also being introduced. The entire progress system is being overhauled.
- The Command Center serves as an overview for all account progress. From here, you can access the other menus.
- In “Heroes,” the Major now appears. Here, Epic is hinting at another feature called “Hero Loadout” that has not yet been revealed: Heroes may soon receive their own special equipment, which was not the case in Fortnite before.
- The “Survivors” screen is now more clearly organized, allowing management of the survivors. However, “Expeditions” and “Defenders” have been separated from here.
- The “Upgrades” screen featuring Kevin, the robot assistant, is new. Here you can manage gadgets, expand your backpack, or enhance the pickaxe. These tasks were previously linked to the large progress tree or disappeared into the “Now let’s start the mission” menu.
- The “Research” menu is now significantly cleaner and is no longer the huge, branching tree it once was.
- In the “Armory,” you should be able to manage schematics, weapons, and resources. The collection is now also included here.
What else is changing
Save the World also promises:
- A new tutorial to better introduce players
- To clarify the quests
- And resets for research and skills will be coming
In the shop, you will find the revolver: The Last Word. A weapon with this name already exists in Destiny. Perhaps Epic is taking inspiration from this weapon.
When is all this coming? It should go live in the next patch. Update 6.3 for Fortnite is expected on Wednesday, at the latest on Thursday.
Fortnite discards the research tree
What this means: It seems that “Fortnite: Save the World” is being significantly streamlined with these changes. Especially the two progress trees with many branches, four tiers, and unlocks appear to be absent in the new Fortnite.
Previously, players had to unlock nodes that only provided relatively meager bonuses or unlocked certain equipment tiers for various items or characters. This cumbersome and complex progress system, which originates from mobile MMOs, seems to be gradually eliminated in Fortnite.
The main goal appears to be to make Fortnite clearer and more accessible.
What happens next?
- A new weapon will only come next week.
- At the end of November, the campaign continues with “Bru-Tal Part 2”. There may also be the promised Ghost Town coming back.
- Later, there will be the possibility to continue playing even after reaching the max level and to develop the account meaningfully.
