In Fortnite the change in turbo building has caused a lot of criticism. Although the changes only revolve around 0.1 seconds, there are now problems. Pros like TSM Myth are upset.
What was changed? On August 27, Fortnite released update v10.20. In the patch notes, they reported on the new zone Pandora and changes to the spawn rates of the mechs. Furthermore, the developers have targeted people who build particularly quickly.
They increased the time between consecutive turbo build placements from 0.05 seconds to 0.15 seconds. Until update v4.30, this was still the standard value.
In turbo building, you simply hold down the mouse button and turn with your character to quickly build a structure around you. A relief, as you don’t have to constantly click.
What are the implications? If you want to defend yourself quickly with many placements in Fortnite, you now have to adjust your playstyle accordingly. If you keep playing as before, the constructed buildings will have holes and make the player vulnerable.

These are the problems: Although the change of 0.1 seconds seems small, it is a big nerf for pros. If you want to build quickly now, you can’t just hold down the mouse button. No, you have to keep clicking.
This is what Myth says: One who has loudly complained about the changes is player Ali “Myth” Kabbani from Team TSM. He shows how building “90s”, that is, building parts vertically within a tile to gain high ground, no longer works as intended.

This is what other pros say: On social media, other pros are also speaking out. Player Saf from GhostGaming can’t believe it and writes: “No. Impossible that they did that.”
The star streamer Ninja also comments on the changes from Epic and makes a joke about how really no one wanted these nerfs and Epic implemented them anyway.
In a subsequent tweet he writes that Fortnite was right to nerf the mechs. But just a few days later, the developers nerf building and make the mechs OP again, just like they were before. “Great logic,” he emphasizes.
Why did Epic Games do this?
This is what Epic says about the changes: In a blog post, the developers commented on the controversial topic. With the changes, they wanted to take the first steps towards “fixing some issues”:
- Fast turbo building gives players with low ping an unfair advantage
- Turtling disproportionately favors the defending player
- Building parts should not be placed by accident
- Building spamming should decrease, more conscious building is encouraged
The team mentions that they do not want to dramatically influence the ability to build 90s with this.
Epic plans to implement further adjustments in the game. There will be a new placement rate logic, and the building speed for contested building parts will be limited.
