Fortnite is once again focusing on “Save the World”, the child from the first marriage. These changes are planned for the coming weeks and months. Epic shows a roadmap. In it, they address the three major issues of the PvE mode.
Fortnite Save the World, the little brother in the shadow: When it is said, that 125 million play Fortnite, it sounds like a huge game. But these Fortnite players typically only know the trendy younger brother, the free “Battle Royale”. The real Fortnite, however, is “Save the World”, the PvE mode.
It is like the neglected child from the first marriage, which is still loved, but perhaps a bit overlooked. The PvE mode started a year ago and is still paid. “Save the World” stands in the shadow of its more successful younger brother. But: Epic is working on it.
The major issues of Fortnite “Save the World”
Fortnite “Save the World” – what has changed in a year: Fortnite is in a strange situation. A year ago it was released in Early Access for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and was already amazingly polished and playable.
But: The campaign simply ends after the 3rd area. Nothing has changed about that in a year. Instead, primarily
- Changes to the controversial monetization system. Initially, it was too loot box-focused.
- Also, new features like a perk system arrived in Fortnite: Save the World
- new modes like the survival mode
- seasonal events
- and balance changes
- Quality-of-Life improvements
So work has already been done on “Save the World”. Overall, many PvE players are upset that so little has changed regarding the fundamental problems of Fortnite.
Major issues: There are 3 major issues with Fortnite:
- The progression system – How do players advance?
- The unfinished campaign – There’s no more story from zone 3 on
- And the lack of variety: Everything repeats too much – there could be more enemy types and mission types
Fortnite now wants to work on these 3 fronts. They have presented the roadmap for the next few weeks, until about the end of July.
What Fortnite is doing for the campaign
Bru-Tal will be completed, at least act 1 of the story is coming: Currently, only the first 2 areas of Fortnite are blessed with a campaign. Starting from zone 3 “Bru-Tal”, there are further quests, but no more story. That is supposed to change soon. At least the first act of the story is coming.
When is it coming? Bru-Tal will receive act 1 shortly after V.5.0. 5.0 is likely to come with the start of season 5 in Fortnite PvP – that’s still about 3 weeks away. We can expect the 1st act of Bru-Tal by the end of July.
Buy the hero you want
Get heroes and schematics directly: It should also be possible to buy the heroes and schematics players want directly with manuals and flux. This function is expected to come next week. This will allow players to earn “heroes and schematics” more specifically – they are no longer reliant on loot llamas and chance, as long as they have enough resources.
Fish out items from the collection box: It will also be possible to buy back items from the collection that one has placed in. This will cost 20 V-Bucks. However, you will also lose the collection XP. The collection is a kind of gigantic box in which players can place items and figures and receive rewards for it.
When is it coming? Already with 4.5 – that should be the patch next week Tuesday or the week after, if they cheat again.
New nasty ones on the way
New enemy types planned: Two new husks will come to Save the World:
- A stronger version of the shield bearer, who shields other husks
- And his buddy, the “Shocker”
When is it coming? They haven’t said anything about that yet. Just “soon.”
More action, less survival
Horde mode is coming: After being probably unsatisfied with endless waves in the survival mode, the “Horde Challenge” is now coming. Players will land on a map with finished bases and the action starts immediately. There is a time pressure. The mode is supposed to be shorter than previous waves. The number and enemy count of the waves has been reduced and mini-bosses are being introduced. There are also supposed to be better rewards.
When is it coming? With 5.0 – that should be around July 10.
And when will everything be finished and free?
Save the World for free? There is no word about when “Save the World” will be free in the new post. It is actually planned for 2018. But that could still take a few months if they are just now beginning to supply Bru-Tal with a story. “Fortnite: Save the World” was initially supposed to become free only after leaving Early Access. That could still take a while.
Birthday party planned: Epic wants to celebrate the 1st birthday of Fortnite and invites players to a party. They promise an anniversary llama and nostalgic content.
