This week, Fortnite: Battle Royale players can look forward to a new item: The Pocket Rift. It functions like the Rifts already spread across the map and is likely to become a coveted item, as our author Robert believes.
The Rifts teleport you into the air and give you the opportunity to use your glider again. They are extremely popular, as they allow you to
- escape at the last moment before the storm,
- avoid fights, or
- attack from another direction again.
However, these Rifts are likely to disappear again with the end of Season 5, a fate that has already befallen the Jump Pads in Season 4.
The Reddit hint has been confirmed: Epic employee MrPopo and the Fortnite Reddit are currently playing a guessing game for new items and weapons that will be integrated into Fortnite: Battle Royale.
This week, the hint was quite clear: “Be mobile and always carry your escape plan with you”. Much indicated a portable Rift, which has now also been confirmed in-game.
How will the Pocket Rift work? That is still unknown. I assume that the Pocket Rift will be thrown and will open a portal to the sky for a few seconds. This would also give your teammates the chance to jump afterwards.
Since the Pocket Rift is likely to become a very valuable item, it will probably be rarely found. In what stacks and rarities it will be available is not yet known.
When will the Pocket Rift come? Very likely, the Pocket Rift will find its way to Fortnite: Battle Royale on Thursday, August 23, alongside Update 5.30!
Here’s what you can do with the Pocket Rift in Fortnite: Battle Royale!
As already described, you can escape the storm with a mobile Pocket Rift and thus have more time to collect loot. However, the Pocket Rift will also serve you well in fights if you use it wisely.
Pocket Rift as an escape option or attack variant: Have you found yourself caught in the crossfire and have to face multiple opponents? Use the Pocket Rift to rise into the air and sail away comfortably.
Alternatively, you can surprise enemies in a fort by simply landing on their roof. Are you in a fort and under fire? Edit your stairs and move down in your fort. Throw (hidden from the opponent) the Pocket Rift and teleport yourself into the air to launch a surprise attack.
If the Pocket Rift becomes a throwable item, it might also be used to catapult your opponent into the air. This gives you the time to reorganize or even jump after them.
