Fortnite Mobile generated 25 million USD in its first month, and it is only available on iOS devices. Players on Android are doing everything they can to also play Fortnite on their phones and end up on dubious download sites that promise Fortnite Android or Fortnite Android Beta. These are condemned by Epic. We explain how the “Fortnite Android Download” scam works.
As the site Sensortower reports, the mobile version of Fortnite generated 25 million USD in its first 30 days. And Fortnite Mobile has only been playable on all iOS devices since April 1st. Before that, an invitation was needed to play Fortnite.
Since April 1st, players worldwide are spending about 1 million USD on Fortnite Mobile – daily!
Fortnite iOS bigger than Tinder
In the USA, Fortnite on iOS is generating more revenue than Tinder, YouTube, Candy Crush, or Hulu – only Netflix is larger when it comes to daily revenue from iPhones in the first half of April.
Sensortower estimates that Fortnite Mobile could take in over 500 million USD in 2018, but only if Fortnite also releases on Android.
What about Fortnite Android? When is it coming?
While Apple follows a clear standard with iOS devices, the situation with Android devices is more open. Therefore, Epic states that it takes longer to develop an Android version of Fortnite Mobile.
Since Fortnite Mobile was announced, there has been no further official announcement from Epic regarding Fortnite on Android devices. No beta has been announced, there has been no whisper about it.
But the demand for Fortnite Android is huge.
Fake sites claiming to offer Fortnite Android download are receiving a lot of traffic
Therefore, there are some sites online that pretend to be Epic. They claim: “You can download and play Fortnite Android APK with us.”
Epic itself has repeatedly warned about these sites. These sites are absolutely untrustworthy upon closer inspection and describe in their texts the “Save the World” version or even “GTA V.”
That doesn’t stop players from frantically navigating these sites to seemingly download and play Fortnite on Android.
This shows how great the demand for Fortnite is among Android players – and how reckless some are willing to get.
Epic’s statement is clear: This is all fake. Only our official sites are real.
This is how the Fortnite Android scam works
The YouTuber Redskull has dealt with the “scam” behind these sites. He explains how these fake sites work:
- There are popular videos showing how to download Fortnite Android (always from the same site) – but it is never actually played
- The APK that you download is relatively small – only about 45 MB
- The APK is harmless, virus scanners do not trigger
- Another download is pretended, but it never takes place
- You are supposed to complete a “verification” here, where you have to download and play apps from the Google Store
- You reach these apps through an “affiliate” link, meaning: The person who sent you to the app makes money from it
- This “verification process” repeats itself endlessly.
- But no one can actually play Fortnite on Android.
Someone is making real money off the fact that people are downloading the “Fake Fortnite Android” app. But no one can play Fortnite Android yet.
You can see: Not only Epic is getting rich with Fortnite Mobile right now.
The special thing about Fortnite Mobile: It is not a scaled-down version of the battle royale mode from PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is actually the same game, just with different controls.
