Fortnite (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One) confuses many players in the challenges of week 6 in Season 5. The reason is a challenge related to a light machine gun. Which weapon is meant by light machine gun?
Eliminate opponents with a minigun or a light machine gun: This is one of the difficult tasks in the challenges of week 6 in Season 5 of Fortnite. However, some players seem to have trouble with the task. Which weapons are meant?
What is a light machine gun?
In Fortnite, there are many weapons and some of them are classified as submachine guns. However, there is only one variant of machine guns in the game, namely the “Light Machine Gun” (LMG).
Where can I find the LMG? The light machine gun is a weapon of rare or higher rarity that is not easy to find. It sometimes spawns on the ground, but can also often be found in chests or supply drops.
Light submachine gun? Misunderstanding
Many Fortnite fans are currently looking for a “light submachine gun” in order to complete the challenge with this weapon. However, this is a misunderstanding.
Although there are many submachine guns in Fortnite (MP or SMG), there is no “light” version of them.
Only LMG or Minigun allowed: You cannot complete the challenge with an SMG either. Only the LMG or Minigun qualify, a weapon that only appears in epic and legendary rarity.
How do I get kills with the LMG?
Not the best weapon for kills: Once you have finally found an LMG or a Minigun, the next problem arises: How do I get kills with it?
Because both weapons are more suitable for providing tactical suppressive fire or demolishing buildings. In terms of damage output, submachine guns, shotguns, or assault rifles are better.
This is what you should do: Therefore, you should play this challenge in a team and down an opponent with a weapon you prefer. Then pull out the LMG or Minigun and finish off the helpless one. You will now be credited with a kill using the LMG/Minigun.
How are the names derived?
The reason for the misunderstanding between submachine gun and rifle lies in the fact that in the German language, automatic weapons are often combined with the word “Maschinen-“.
The machine gun was invented first. It used rifle ammunition and was quite large, which is why it was declared a “maschinen-gewehr”.
The next evolutionary step in automatic weapons was smaller and used a pistol caliber instead of rifle ammo to save space and weight. The German MP 40 or the American Tommy Gun were such weapons.
Since they could also fire fully automatically, they were simply referred to in German as “Maschinenpistole” due to the smaller pistol caliber.
The automatically developed rifles that came later were then given the German name “Sturmgewehre” to avoid confusion with the heavier machine guns.
