Football players are into Fortnite! Epic’s battle royale game has become a real phenomenon with millions of enthusiastic players worldwide. They come from all professions and age groups, but the battle royale game seems particularly popular among kids, teenagers, and professional athletes.
Athletes have been celebrating their goals on the field with Fortnite emotes for some time now:
- In the German Bundesliga, a Fortnite scene appeared, which also brought some trouble
- In rugby, there was also a Fortnite-style celebration
- The World Cup star Griezmann danced the “Take the L” dance during the World Cup
Once again, a goal celebration in Fortnite style has been observed during the 2018 Football World Cup.

What happened? After an assist from his teammate and Fortnite fan Antoine Griezmann, the French national player Samuel Umtiti scored the decisive header in the 51st minute against Belgium. This brought France to the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2018 with a score of 1:0.
Celebrating like in Fortnite: An impressive performance that the hero of the match celebrated in a way that has probably become customary among football professionals: with a Fortnite emote! Umtiti likely chose the “Boneless” dance, where you wave your arms loosely back and forth as if they had no bones.
England loves Fortnite too: If England wins today’s match against Croatia, there would be two teams full of Fortnite fans in the finals. The English captain Harry Kane recently stated in an interview that he and his teammates relax with Fortnite between games.
Fun Fact: The German national team was reportedly banned from the internet in Russia during the World Cup because they allegedly played all night. Among the games there was probably also Fortnite!
