Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One) is getting an event week called “High Stakes” soon. It features a cool new skin that seems to hint at a new game mode.
What is High Stakes all about? High Stakes means “High Stakes” and describes a situation where you take a big risk for a potential big reward. This term is commonly used in high-stakes poker rounds.
Starting next week, the event week of the same name is supposed to take place in Fortnite, with the first content possibly being seen at the PAX event in the USA this weekend.
New game mode a la “Save the President”?
What is this cool new skin? What exactly will happen in the High Stakes event is still unclear. However, Epic has already released a first image of it on Twitter. It shows the cool new skin named “Wild Card”.
The outfit looks like John Wick in a white suit with a mask showing a heart like from a playing card. The “cards” theme fits the High Stakes motto of the event week.
Fortnite introduces new mode: Getaway
What is the Getaway mode? Interestingly, the skin carries a suitcase with handcuffs. So, there is probably something super valuable inside. This may relate to a mysterious new game mode called Getaway.
Everyone against one? It’s quite possible that in this game mode you must find a suitcase in the game world and escape with it (Getaway means “to get away”). Perhaps all other players will hunt the suitcase carrier, while another part of the players will protect him.
Getaway would then be something like a “Protect the President” game mode. In this mode, one player is the “President” and the rest of the team must protect him. This mode has already been unofficially re-enacted by various streamers in a regular Fortnite round.
What the new mode and the skin exactly mean, we will find out at the earliest on PAX.
