In Fortnite there has been a major topic for years: the building system. Some players say: I would actually be good at Fortnite, but I just can’t handle building. There are now more and more signs that Epic Games is listening to these players. However, this is criticized by hardcore players. Now it is about a new weapon that is already being referred to as a “Casual weapon.”
This is the fundamental conflict in Fortnite:
- The shooter Fortnite: Battle Royale is actually a standard “Battle Royale” – 100 people land, the play area becomes increasingly smaller due to a “fog” that encroaches from the outside. Whoever remains last wins. The game was developed in 2 months in 2017 by the “Unreal Tournament” team at Epic Games.
- But Fortnite: Battle Royale is based on a PvE game, “Fortnite: Save the World”, where you could build and alter the environment similar to Minecraft. This idea has been adopted by Epic Games for the shooter: players can raise walls, build stairs, and protect themselves from opponents.
- This “building” is what distinguishes the best players in Fortnite from bad to mediocre opponents. But it also “limits” the player base of Fortnite. Those who cannot manage building will not succeed in Fortnite and will quickly become frustrated. Now there are more and more signs that Epic Games is accommodating the “non-builders.”
Data miner finds new pistol that inflicts a lot of damage to buildings
What kind of new weapon is this? The well-known data miner and leaker HypeX reports that Epic is working on a new “anti-build” weapon of rare quality – possibly a pistol.
- The weapon fires very slowly – only 1 shot every 2 seconds.
- However, it inflicts high damage: 75 normal, 113 as a headshot.
- But above all, the weapon has extremely high building damage at 400.
This is how it is being discussed: The weapon is seen as a “casual weapon” that should help players who cannot build.
- One user says: “I am done with Fortnite. Too many items are coming out that are supposed to help bad players.”
- “Sounds like the dream of a casual, and like a sweet nightmare.”

The discussion about how “casual-friendly” Fortnite should be has been ongoing since 2018. Certain vehicles and aircraft or weapon types like shotguns, the sword or the Boom Bow have always been labeled as “casual.” There was a time when Fortnite professionals complained hourly about Epic Games’ patch policy, stating that they were making the game “too easy.”
However, Epic Games tended to listen more to the many players who play Fortnite less and not the few players who play it a lot. It has always been a battle of design policy.
