It wasn’t long ago that the top 10 selections for Youth Word of the Year were announced. Alongside words like ‘slay’ and ‘Gommemode’, the good old ‘wild’ was also in contention – defined as a term for ‘crazy, intense’ things.
Rarely has a word fit as well as ‘wild’ does for what hits you when you jump onto the Fortnite island in summer 2022.
What’s going on in Fortnite? Fortnite has long been a game that has no issue unleashing completely crazy things on its players. UFOs, a gigantic rapper, a world-destroying meteor, superheroes, monster battles – you don’t even know where to start and where to stop.
With the recently launched Dragonball event, Fortnite is stepping it up again. Now not only is Darth Vader flying around in his shuttle trying to take you out with the Force and lightsaber, but all sorts of players are also jetting around on magical clouds shooting Kamehame-Ha at each other.
Once again, Fortnite draws attention with a good dose of madness. And that’s quite an achievement when the normal gameplay already showcases scenes like a shooting Spider-Man or a Predator dropping trash from another dimension on enemies.
The new event also sparked reactions online. In the “Gaming” subreddit, a single image from the game is currently receiving a lot of attention.
Fortnite and its crazy mix: ‘Exactly the game I wanted at 12, 13 years’
This is the post: In the gaming subreddit, user “tomthedum” posted a recent image from the game, including the question: “How can this be a real game?” So far, the post has received over 61,000 upvotes and more than 3,700 comments.
The image shows Naruto, Son-Goku, Darth Vader, and Rick Sanchez on the squad selection screen. This is actually only the tip of the iceberg when you look at how ridiculously many collaborations Fortnite has already had. However, the image is making an impression in the comments.

The comments discuss extensively how comprehensive the crossovers have become and how crazy the game is now. However, there is also criticism regarding the skins, which Epic is likely making a lot of money from, as they typically need to be purchased.
However, many players also seem to feel transported back to a time when they would have wished for something like this as a child: “You can join my class-action lawsuit against Epic for stealing the script for the huge toy crossover event that I held in my bedroom as a child,” jokes user “soemcallme_doc” (via reddit).
Moreover, users are also discussing the game’s evolution over the years – and how far it has drifted from the original idea.
After all, Fortnite was once a zombie-building-survival game that shifted its focus to Battle Royale, only to then take a completely new path with events, changing seasons, secret stories, and collaborations like Dragonball, Star Wars, and Marvel.
As a player, you can now even completely do without the building component and simply play the “No-Build Mode”. Then you no longer need to gather materials but can look for powerful weapons, Darth Vader’s lightsaber, or the new Kamehame-Ha right away.
