In Fortnite, some players are currently receiving false ban notifications due to a spectator feature that Epic itself has implemented. What is behind this?
Which feature is being referred to? When you join a friend in the lobby while he is playing a solo game, you can watch him.
To do this, you wait a few minutes after joining the lobby. After a short time, the “Spectate” option appears at the ready button. When you press this button, you can watch this friend during the game.
Players are receiving false ban notifications
Why are they receiving these notifications? The player bench150kg posted a picture on reddit showing the ban notification. He had only watched a friend in a solo round.
The notification states: “Behavior warning. Due to your recent actions, you are being warned for: Teaming. Please do not repeat this behavior or you will receive an account ban.”
What is meant by teaming? This refers to when you team up with other players and compete against other opponents together, even though it should be a solo match.
What does the affected player have to say about this? The player bench150kg seems confused. He claims he did nothing wrong and certainly did not use teaming.
He says: “I have never used teaming and neither has my friend. This happens when you watch a friend in a solo match, which makes no sense at all, because that’s supposed to be the idea of the feature.”
What’s going on?
Why is this notification so strange? The spectator feature was installed in the game by Epic Games themselves. The idea is to be able to watch your friends in a solo match.
However, Epic is now issuing warnings for this behavior, although the players have done nothing wrong.
What does Epic say about these error messages? Epic Games has not yet commented on these false ban notifications. It is likely to be a nasty bug that will probably be fixed soon.
