Fortnite was able to impress with cool new content at the launch of Chapter 4. However, many players have been struggling with their nerves for weeks. Bugs, disabled weapons, and server crashes are now the order of the day, and Epic Games just can’t keep up with the fixes.
What is going on in Fortnite? Fortnite started in December with Chapter 4 and it came with cool new features like parkour or better graphics thanks to Unreal Engine 5. Despite this, the launch was riddled with many problems:
- Weapons were disabled
- Servers keep crashing, and there are frequent login issues
- Many bugs that make playing almost impossible
Additionally, Epic Games was on a break over Christmas. Thus, the problems could continue to fester during the holidays, leaving players with nothing but frayed nerves.
Now that Epic Games is back, the team has immediately focused on eliminating the bugs. An update was supposed to straighten out some issues in the game but has only left more problems behind.
Epic Games brings back broken feature broken
What bugs have been fixed? The shockwave hammer and the parkour feature were temporarily disabled but returned to the game with the hotfix on January 10. The hammer is working perfectly again, but the parkour is not. Reddit user StunningPaul shows you exactly what has returned broken:
Players are not only being thrown back meters when trying to overcome an obstacle, but it is also almost impossible to pull themselves up slopes. When trying, they are either thrown away or thrown back down to the ground.
So far, the feature is still in the game, but it is clear that something is wrong and that it is most likely a bug. It remains to be seen when Epic Games will address these issues. The servers also had a hiccup on the evening of the patch (via twitter.com), which lasted for over two hours. But these are not the only bugs and problems.
What else is broken? Among the broken things in Fortnite are not only the bad server connections and constant crashes but also the removed weapon “Deku Smash.” This was quietly disabled by Epic Games and is no longer present in the game.
The Battle Pass also has an annoying bug. Items purchased with Battle Pass stars can be repurchased but waste the number of stars invested for the purchase.
Fortnite in its current state resembles a battlefield. When Epic takes the necessary steps to eliminate the bugs is also completely open.
When could a fix be on the way? Epic Games is still silent about when an exact fix might be on the way. However, leakers have found out that the next major update is coming on January 17 (via twitter.com). So it is very likely that the developers will be addressing some bugs with this update.
