Fortnite (PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS) is set to receive a revised version of the 50-vs-50 mode. Here’s how the new mode works.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is already a lot of fun in the regular Solo, Duo, and Team modes. Epic regularly adds limited-time game modes with different rules where everything feels different. So far, these have included:
- Sniper Battle, where each player only had sniper weapons
- Lightning Mode, where the storm shrank the map much faster
- Explosive Mode, where only explosive weapons are available
Today, on April 11, Patch 3.5 was released and brought information about the next mode.
New, revised 50-vs-50 mode expected
According to the patch notes, the 50-vs-50 mode is finally making its return. It will feature two large teams of 50 players each, which will be divided into smaller sub-teams.
The revival of the 50-vs-50 mode has the following rules according to the patch notes from 3.5:
- Each 50-player team comes with its own bus
- The final storm circle is visible from the start
- Before the storm begins, you have 10 minutes to loot. During the game, 3 to 6 supply drops will fall from the sky every 2 minutes
- There will be a line on the map indicating where the other team’s territory begins, and where you are likely to encounter enemies.
- Players who go down lose health faster.
In the old 50-vs-50 mode, loot was always scarce. Therefore, the new version has different loot rules:
- Resource gathering has been increased by 75%.
- The chance for ground loot has been increased by 15%.
- Ground loot now contains double the amount of ammunition.
- Ammunition crates now contain triple the amount of ammunition.
- Chests now contain double the amount of ammunition and consumables.
- Supply drops now contain double the amount of ammunition as well as an additional consumable, an extra resource, and an additional trap.
Also cool: A bug that allowed a team to have more than 50 players has been fixed.
New mode still a bit away
Those looking forward to the new mode on patch day will have to wait a bit longer. According to Epic employee “Epic-Boomer” on Reddit, the new 50-vs-50 mode will be available soon, but not on April 11 with the new Fortnite update 3.5.
They will bring the new mode into the game as soon as possible and are thrilled about the huge anticipation of fans for the revised 50-vs-50 mode.
Mode postponed
Update: The new mode was originally scheduled for Thursday. However, there was a massive server outage on Thursday. Epic also wants to risk nothing over the weekend and maintain the gaming experience.
Therefore, the new 50-vs-50 v2 mode in Fortnite has been postponed to next week. Whether it will arrive on Monday or later in the week for Fortnite: Battle Royale is not yet known.
