Fortnite: Battle Royale has finally taken a big nerf for the Mech. But are the players and Twitch pros who have been complaining for weeks now satisfied?
What is the Mech nerf about? The Mech “B.I.E.S.T.” in Fortnite has been a major point of contention in the community since its introduction at the beginning of Season 10. According to Epic, the vehicle is mainly designed to help newcomers achieve quick kills and successes.
Many players and pros feel this is not good because, from their perspective, a Mech often decides the game. After long complaints and minor adjustments, the Mech has now been noticeably nerfed: It now shoots fewer rockets, among other changes, and no longer automatically collects resources that it stomps.
But is that enough to reconcile the angry players?
Pros still angry “Too little, too late!”
This is what the pro gamers say: For weeks, pros have been demanding harsh nerfs or an end to the Mech altogether. Many have turned their backs on Fortnite and are playing other games, such as Apex Legends, Minecraft, or the ongoing Open Alpha for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Nevertheless, there have been numerous reactions to the Mech nerf. The well-known Twitch pro “TimTheTatman” expressed his emotional response on Twitter. He repeatedly shouted into the microphone, “Yes!” and “This is what I meant all along!” So the changes seem to please him.
But for many players, the issue is not over yet. Epic waited too long and hurt the feelings of the pros.
Chap from Team Liquid still believes that this “terrible vehicle” should be completely kicked out of the game.
Some even suspect a conspiracy behind it all. Epic allegedly withheld the nerf deliberately until other games, like the Alpha of Modern Warfare, launched, causing players to migrate. The theory suggests that the nerf aims to lure players back in droves and undercut the competition.
The regular players have had enough too
This is what Reddit says: But not only the pros are frustrated about the issue. Also on Reddit, tensions are running high in several threads, and there is anger towards Epic, which did not even apologize for the Mech:
- “They apologized for the sword, but did nothing to avoid making the same mistake. We don’t need an apology, we need a leadership change! Someone should be fired!”
- “I’m not playing until the Mechs are gone. I won’t play the rest of the season as long as they’re still in, and I don’t even know if I’ll come back then. The developers had a wonderful game and they ruined it!”
- “Almost all of my friends are gone now, and the 3 who are still around are on the verge of leaving as well. The Mech nerf doesn’t change the fact that the loot pool is total garbage and there is barely any mobility left in the game.”
- “I don’t care what they bring into or take out of the game. I’m not spending any more money. Epic suddenly wants more people to win without having skill.”
What is your opinion on the Mech nerf? Just right or too little, too late?
