In Fortnite: Battle Royale, a female-only e-sports team is set to compete soon. A top organization in e-sports, Gen.G, has invested a lot of money and effort into the team of female gamers.
What is Gen.G? Gen.G stands for “Generation Gaming” and is a large e-sports organization from South Korea. Gen.G teams are active and successful in several games, including League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch.
The New eSports Team for Fortnite
What’s the deal with the Gen.G team in Fortnite? Gen.G aims to establish a strong presence in Fortnite and has therefore founded its own team for Epic’s battle royale shooter.
The special feature: The Fortnite team will consist only of women. The two rising US pro gamers, Tina “Tinaraes” Perez and Madison “Maddiesuun” Mann, are leading the way. Tinaraes has already made a name for herself in the Fall Skirmish tournament and placed 4th in Week 3.
The overall stats for the two are as follows:
- Tinaraes has a win rate of 13.3 percent in 8,407 matches and a kill-death ratio of 4.31. With her 31,458 kills, she is among the top 0.1 percent of players.
- Maddiesuun has a win rate of 10.6 percent in 7,294 matches and a kill-death ratio of 3.53. With her 23,036 kills, she is also among the top 0.1 percent of players.
Both players compete on PC.
Curious detail: Typically, US e-sports organizations hire Koreans as professionals, but in this case, a Korean clan is recruiting players from America.
How Gen.G plans to further develop the Fortnite team: To optimally support the two players, Gen.G has also hired the streamer Kristen “KittyPlays” Valnicek as manager. Valnicek is the founder of the streamer community “Team Kitty“, in which almost only women are active.
Ex-NBA star as coach: Additionally, support comes from Chris Bosh, a former NBA star. He is also supposed to advise and support the players to become optimal e-sports athletes.
Big money for the Fortnite team: All these initiatives cost a lot of money and show that Gen.G is serious about creating a Fortnite presence while also promoting female pro gamers.
So far, the esports scene has been rather male-dominated and women often find it hard to connect. Through Gen.G’s initiative, this should change, unlocking the previously untapped potential of female gamers.
When will the two compete for the first time? Their first test in an official tournament is slated for this weekend at the finals of the Fall Skirmish tournament at Twitch Con.
