In Fortnite exists one of the best and most dramatic stories, yet many players in Battle Royale do not even know that it exists. Therefore, our MeinMMO author Christos Tsogos believes that the story of the BR shooter deserves a separate mode.
What story is it about? In Fortnite, players are constantly forced to battle in the Battle Bus. Chased by the relentless storm, players must win the match in Battle Royale to survive. If you win, you return to the same battlefield to fight against opponents and the storm.
This is not a coincidence or just due to the “Battle Royale” mechanic. In fact, this perpetual cycle is controlled by the power of a mysterious being in Fortnite.
You are held in a time loop by the being Geno so that it can absorb and exploit the power of the Zero Point. The Zero Point grants it the power to plunge into different realities, thus being able to subjugate everything and everyone.
But a group of freedom fighters, the Seven, has made it their mission to save every reality and free the Zero Point from Geno’s clutches.
Geno cannot enter the fight himself. Therefore, he sends his underground organization, the IO, as his representative to the front lines. They eliminate everything and everyone that could get in the way of Geno’s plan.
Yet, despite a deep story that has been ongoing for years, hardly anyone knows what is happening in the narrative. Many live events at the end of a season are celebrated, yet not everyone understands why this is happening.
Captivating story, but no one notices it in Battle Royale
In Fortnite, there has been an ongoing story since Chapter 1 that has continued through Chapter 3. Epic Games has spared no effort and has created and adapted Battle Passes and live events around the story.
However, not every player notices that behind the wild Battle Royale shooter lies a profound story. If you are in Battle Royale, there are few hints about the events happening in the background.
Why does Fortnite have one of the best stories? The story in Fortnite’s Battle Royale offers everything that the heart desires – suspense, drama, comedy, action, and a mysterious villain. Additionally, guest appearances bring laughter and unforgettable moments when characters like Spider-Man or The Rock drop by.
Despite the colorful setting, the narrative also feels dark and gripping. You want to know who is behind the time loop, how to stop it, and whether good will ultimately triumph over evil. Therefore, it is a shame that such a story is only told on the sidelines.
How can Epic Games change this? Fortnite’s Battle Royale is among the best on the market, but it is not built for storytelling. To provide players with a better platform, a new, separate mode would be an interesting solution.
A PvE mode, like Save the World. This should not focus on zombies but retell the story of Chapters 1 – 3 and relate it to the current events in the game.
Cool and diverse missions in the fight against the IO or even boss battles could keep players engaged in the long run.
As a reward, older cosmetics from the respective story phase could be offered, allowing players to chase them. Previous live events could continue to take place on the Battle Royale map.
This way, Fortnite fans can experience the story in one piece without having to scour the internet to gather and piece together story fragments. Many players would welcome this, as the story in the current BR mode often seems opaque.
