The map in Fortnite (PC, PS4, iOS & Xbox One) has a new secret. Suddenly, a mysterious hatch has appeared in the middle of the forest.
What happened?: Fortnite is known for bringing mysterious things into the game and keeping the expectations high for months about what might be behind them. Most recently, this happened with the comet that was getting closer and closer.
In the meantime, the comet has struck and mysterious superhero hideouts have appeared on the map. Recently, there is again a mysterious object: A locked hatch in the forest!
The Secret of the Wailing Woods
Resourceful players recently found a place in the dark forest of Wailing Woods in the northeast of the map that wasn’t there before. It’s a metal hatch that stands in the middle of the woods.
What’s up with the hatch? The hatch is indestructible and cannot be opened. Looking through the slits in the hatch, one can see a deep shaft. On the back of the hatch, there are curious drawings with scribbles and arrows.
Epic keeps the secret
Smart players immediately used the drone feature of the replay camera to look under the map. They wanted to uncover the mystery of the hatch.
Epic is tight-lipped! The developers at Epic foresaw this and filled the hatch with tons of stone blocks that extend deep underground. Whatever the developers have planned for the hatch, it seems it will remain a secret for now.
Is the hatch the new comet?
This is just like in Lost! Some players were immediately reminded of the hatch from the mystery series Lost. There, the protagonists also find a locked hatch that turns out to be an entrance to a mysterious research facility.
The new mystery theme of Season 4? Perhaps the hatch is related to the superhero and villain hideouts that are also spread across the map. The hatch might also become the new comet and regularly reveal small teasers of its contents. By the end of Season 4, we hopefully will know more.
