So far, you can only talk to each other. You cannot send messages.
How to play on other platforms: Even though you can only access the Group Center via mobile devices, you can still play on your console or PC.
You just need to open the game on your platform, and your phone will connect directly to your other device. You can then play on any platform.
Crossplay is also emphasized here, because your friends can be on different platforms than you.
If you still want to talk to your friends on your smartphone, you can do that too. Alternatively, you can talk to the respective players using your headset.
How to invite friends: In the Group Center, you can form the group you want to play with. You need to look out for the Alarm Bell at the respective player. When you ring this bell, you invite the player. They can then join your group, and you can start the game.
