The well-known German Fortnite streamer Marcel “Montanablack” Eris says he now has the most subscriptions on Twitch. Those are subscribers that bring in money monthly. This would mean he has surpassed the streamer Shroud. However, one can’t be too sure about the numbers.
This is what Montanablack says: The streamer tweeted yesterday that he is the number 1 in the world when it comes to subs. He claims to have 35,233 subscribers.
How much money does Montanablack earn with the subs? That is not entirely clear. It depends on the deal he made with Twitch and what the exact “tiers” of the subs are.
A Tier-1 sub brings in $4.99 a month, of which the Twitch streamer receives at least 50%. Assuming the worst case where all subscribers are only Tier 1 and Montanablack has made only the minimum deal with Twitch, that would already be $88,000 a month – but there is likely much more money coming in each month.
In addition to subscriptions, a streamer also earns money through ad revenue, personal sponsorship deals, donations, and in the case of Fortnite through the “Creator Code”, which Montanablack used to share frequently in the past. He no longer uses this Creator Code, however.
Numbers of other Twitch streamers not really known
What is the catch? Although Montanablack says he has the most “subs” on Twitch, it’s not officially confirmed.
There are websites that keep track of how many subscriptions an individual streamer has – but these numbers are not bombproof: While follower and view counts are publicly accessible, the same does not apply to subs.
The streamer Summit1g, someone with many subs himself, said that the numbers circulating on the internet are unreliable and only estimates.
In the past, it was indeed noticeable that the numbers shared by streamers significantly differed from those of tracking sites. The tracker sites then update their figures based on the latest information from the streamers.

According to one of these tracker sites (via twitchtracker), streamer Shroud was previously ranked 1 with over 30,000 subs. When he is addressed in his stream about Montanablack now having more subs, Shroud barely pays attention to it.
Shroud expects to have fewer subscribers due to WoW Classic.
What does the number say? Despite all the doubts about whether this qualifies him as number one worldwide, 35,000 subs is a strong number – they show that Twitch, Fortnite, and Montanablack have achieved considerable relevance in Germany.
The honorable brother rises to No. 1 in German Twitch with Fortnite
What distinguishes Montanablack? The streamer Montanablack comes from the “Call of Duty” scene, then shot up further with Fortnite, just like many streamers in the English-speaking area, such as Tfue, Ninja, or Myth – or the French Gotaga.
In recent months, Montanablack has been found more frequently on Twitch in the “Slots” category for online gambling.
Montanablack has a unique speaking style. He uses phrases like “differently good” instead of “very good”, things happen on “kiss kiss kiss” basis and everything is somehow related to honor: people are taken honor, given honor, they are brothers of honor or honorable men.
Montanablack is the most successful German Twitch streamer with 1.850 million followers. Following him are
- Trymacs with 1.044 million followers
- and Gronkh with 1.029 million followers
Montanablack maintains a sort of “ex-gangster” image and has been in the media due to some conflicts with the law:
