Fortnite (PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS) recently had an update that destroyed more than it fixed. Since the patch, the game has regularly frozen, usually in situations where death follows right after.
What are the backgrounds? On April 25th, around 6:00 PM, the developers surprisingly deployed a short patch to the Fortnite servers. The game was offline for about half an hour. The patch was supposed to fix an issue where some players suddenly couldn’t get into the game.
However, it seems that the hotfix caused some damage.
Game freezes, player dead
What happened? Since the last patch, players have been reporting en masse that the screen suddenly freezes in Fortnite. This seems to happen particularly often during intense battles.
A player did everything right, outmaneuvered the opponent, aims the shotgun for the final shot…
And then the image freezes for a moment. A second later, it continues, and the player is dead.
Ninja can also be killed this way
What is the freezing bug all about? Since the freezing bug usually occurs just before the player’s death, some Reddit users speculated that they probably got shot right when the screen froze.
This has since been denied. Notably by Fortnite superstar Ninja, who unwittingly volunteered as a guinea pig. Ninja confidently jumped into a hostile barricade and was about to rack up massive kills when the screen froze and Ninja lay dead on the ground shortly thereafter.
A replay of the victorious opponents, however, shows that Ninja certainly did not fall honorably in battle. Instead, you can see exactly how Ninja lands in the fortification and stares at the wall for seconds before being shot from behind.
Solution in sight?
Oh God, that’s terrible! What is Epic doing about this? A while ago, such a problem occurred in the game and was actually fixed. When asked by the website Kotaku about this bug, Epic sent a public Trello board with current issues that the developers are currently working on.
Curiously, the freezing bug is not listed. However, a “FPS drop due to meteors” is at the top of the priority list…
We can only hope that Epic is still working on it because for many players, Fortnite is practically unplayable…
Fortnite players want the refund feature back, even for old skins!
