Fortnite (PC, PS4, iOS & Xbox One) has learned in Season 4 and given its most dedicated players a task that has motivated them for weeks. It’s about the blockbuster skin “The Visitor”. It’s now available, but only for the most dedicated players
Motivating hunt for loot! When the Battle Pass first appeared in Fortnite during Season 2, players were already excited. Players consistently leveled up and regularly experienced success by unlocking new goodies in the Battle Pass.
In Season 3, the concept was then expanded with weekly challenges and even more skins and goodies from the Pass.
The problem: Especially eager gamers reached the final stage in the Pass soon and had nothing left to do. By week 6 or 7, hardcore players were done with the Battle Pass in Fortnite. The rest of the season did not interest them anymore.
In Season 4, the developers therefore improved the system again and gave even the most hardcore pros a goal until week 7.
Motivating speed brake in Season 4
How did Epic keep the super gamers engaged? To ensure hardcore grinders didn’t conquer everything again in a short time, the Blockbuster Challenge offered a reward that couldn’t be completed immediately.
Moreover, the challenge had 7 stages. Each week, you could complete exactly one of them. What the reward was, was also completely unknown. All they knew was that there would be a legendary skin.
Story bits at least as exciting as the skin
There was also a story! For the first time in Season 4, a kind of meta-plot was told. There were several themes, including superheroes and the mysterious comet from Season 3. Each week, a new title image was unlocked when all previous challenges had been completed.
For example, one found out that the superheroes and villains were probably only part of a movie and were not real at all. However, there was likely another plot that was only revealed at the end of the challenge: The Visitor!
The Visitor is here!
The Visitor is the skin you get from the Blockbuster Challenge. He is a type of alien and has a cool cape and customizable helmet displays. A worthy reward for hardcore completionists.
In Season 3, it didn’t matter whether you completed all challenges or not. In Season 4, your effort is clearly rewarded. Anyone who sees a “Visitor” now knows, “I have a really dedicated player in front of me!”
Many casual players will not be able to complete all 7 necessary week challenges. Whether due to lack of time, or because they simply can’t get enough kills with traps or sniper rifles.
Additionally, the Visitor comes with a final title image that already teases the next season of the story. We will soon write another detailed article about this here. It remains exciting what Epic has in store for Season 5!
